About the Role

Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship as part of Professor Rohan Alexander's NSERC Alliance project, Novel Statistical and Machine Learning Algorithms for Analysis of Canadian Political Donationsand Lobbying Data.

Area of research: Entity resolution; Record linkage; Data validation; Large Language Models; Natural Language Processing; Data cleaning

Description of duties: The fellow will conduct research related to the above areas of research that advances the goal of the grant project, which is to develop new methods for working with messy, real-world public interest datasets. The fellow will collaborate with the grant's industry partner, the Investigative Journalism Foundation, on applied research. This fellowship does not involve teaching duties.

Salary: $85,000 per year. Please note that should the minimum rates stipulated in the collective agreement fall below the rates stated in this posting, the minimum rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Supervisor: Rohan Alexander

Required qualifications: Candidate must have a PhD with strong quantitative training and research experience in statistics, computer science, data science or a closely related field.They will understand the history, development, and current state of their field(s) of research, be willing to work with a range of scholars both inside and outside of their own field, be willing to work closely with the industry partner, and have a desire to learn and pursue research in an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellence in research and have an established track record in their field(s) of study.

Eligibility: Applicants must have completed their doctorate within five years of the fellowship's start date of September 1, 2026. Expected start date: September 1, 2026

Term: 2 years. This is a full-time position. The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week for a full-time postdoctoral fellow, recognizing that the needs of the employee's research and professional development and the needs of the supervisor's research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employee's duties and hours of work.
