About the Role

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Pharmacy has overall responsibility for the management and operations of clinical programs and services provided by the Pharmacy.# The Director is responsible for the development and implementation of business and departmental operations plans, accountable for quality of service, expense control and effective management of capital and human resources for all the services within the Department.# The Director is responsible to the hospital administration in all matters of Pharmacy administration and management and Eastern Connecticut Health Network#s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee in all clinical and therapeutics matters. # EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Masters in Science or Pharmaceutical degree from an accredited school of pharmacy is required.# An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed below, may be substituted for the above education requirements.# Activities may include travel to Manchester Memorial, Rockville General, or off site locations therefore requiring a valid driver#s license.

Must be a licensed Pharmacist in the State of CT or be CT license eligible.# EXPERIENCE: Five years of previous hospital Pharmacy management experience at the Director or Assistant Director level is strongly preferred.## COMPETENCIES: Knowledge and understanding of the trends and forces shaping the healthcare delivery system, the provision of care and other emerging issues in healthcare management is required.# The incumbent must apply skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.# This includes; knowledge of growth and development, ability to interpret age specific data and response to care, and the ability to provide age specific communication.## Must also possess up-to-date knowledge on key therapeutic and research trends in drug therapy. # Must be articulate, and be able to comprehend written as well as verbal English communication.# Must have management strengths including ability to select, motivate, develop and retain people and promote collaborative team efforts.# Must be able to demonstrates flexibility and initiative and be able to effectively lead change efforts to respond to environmental or organizational changes.# Must be able to function efficiently in stressful work environment and demonstrate leadership in profession through participation in a pharmacy professional organization, and be able to demonstrate effective leadership and management experience in a clinical, patient care, hospital administration or specialty field.# Highly developed ability to work effectively with a variety of constituencies and ability to lead and manage through influence. # Demonstrates fiscal management capabilities including effective expense reduction, utilization management, budget control and new revenue generation.# Demonstrates capabilities in cross-functional process assessment, problem solving and process improvement.

Demonstrates superior interpersonal and communication skills, commensurate presentation skills, in settings from one on one to large groups.# Demonstrates knowledge and experience in assessing market opportunities, developing business plans and implementing programs to respond to such opportunities.## Experience in effectively leading the design and organization of work and allocation of resources to achieve appropriate staffing levels, staffing mix and productivity levels. # ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITES: Disclaimer: Job descriptions are not intended, nor should they be construed to be, exhaustive lists of all responsibilities, skills, efforts or working conditions associated with the job.# They are intended to be accurate reflections of the principal duties and responsibilities of this position.# These responsibilities and competencies listed below may change from time to time. # # ######### Job-Specific Competency 1.##### In collaboration with the Director of Administrative Services develops business and operations plans for the Department and for specific programs and services within it. 2.##### Through staff and clinical support managers, directs the overall operations of patient care programs and services in the Department. 3.##### Develops, implements and evaluates inpatient and outpatient Pharmacy policies and procedures to optimize patient care. 4.##### Manages the effective allocation of capital and human resources within the Department, including the organization of Department programs and services, control of appropriate staffing mix and levels, and management of productivity. 5.##### Participate in the recruitment, orientation, training, and evaluation of employees.# Provide ongoing feedback, reinforce positive performance, and take appropriate action to improve performance. 6.##### Facilitates interdepartmental coordination by maintaining collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the Pharmacy#s achievement of goals and to help foster a positive work environment. 7.##### Establish an effective, safe, and cost efficient formulary by through effective management of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. 8.##### Collaborates with medical staff in order to assure optimal medication management. 9.##### Exercises oversight of Department fiscal affairs, including development and accountability for Department budgets 10.# Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, accreditation, professional and regulatory agency standards, including quality assurance and license requirements with the service line Department. 11.# Maintain the necessary level of professional knowledge and technical proficiency in areas of functional responsibility. 12.# Performs Staff Pharmacist duties as need arise.
