Senior Protection & Controls (P&C) Engineer - Remote Position Summary A fast-growing power engineering consulting firm is seeking a Senior Protection & Controls (P&C) Engineer to support a wide range of utility and substation projects. Thisfully remote role is ideal for an experienced engineer who brings strong technical depth, can work independently, and enjoys mentoring others. Key Responsibilities
Lead engineering design efforts for transmission and distribution substation protection & control systems (typically 69 kV-500 kV).
Develop and review protection schemes, relay settings, logic calculations, and coordination studies.
Prepare and QA/QC engineering documents, including one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts.
Perform fault studies and analysis to ensure proper protection scheme operation.
Collaborate with project managers, designers, and clients to deliver accurate, on-time engineering packages.
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers; provide technical leadership across multiple projects.
Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and field activities as needed.
Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards (IEEE, NERC, utility-specific requirements).
Contribute to process improvements, standardization, and best practices within the engineering team.
Required Qualifications
10-12 years of professional Protection & Controls engineering experience in the utility or power delivery sector.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power focus preferred).
Strong experience with transmission and distribution relaying, protection logic, and system modeling.
Proficiency with major relay platforms (SEL, GE, etc.) and settings software.
Excellent understanding of industry standards and substation design principles.
Ability to work autonomously in a remote environment while managing multiple deadlines.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative work style.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or the ability to obtain one.
