The role: We are seeking an Associate Dean (Teaching Excellence) who will be accountable for the Faculty’s framework for assuring, evaluating and continuously improving teaching quality, and for providing independent assurance to the Dean on the quality and effectiveness of teaching across all campuses, delivery modes, and teaching schedules.
You will be responsible for teaching quality assurance, lecturer observation, academic staff development, teaching performance improvement, and the implementation of learning and teaching policies across the Faculty. Teaching quality is evaluated through objective evidence of student engagement, student satisfaction, academic performance, student outcomes, and professional judgement, rather than through observation activity alone.
You will also be expected to maintain a visible and active academic presence across delivery locations and teaching schedules, with direct insight into teaching quality, teaching practice and the consistent implementation of Faculty learning and teaching standards.

Essential Skills and Experience:
- Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification.
- Significant experience in higher education teaching, quality assurance, academic development, or academic leadership.
- Experience of evaluating and improving teaching quality.
- Experience of managing teaching performance and addressing under performance.
- Experience of designing and implementing academic staff development interventions that deliver measurable improvement.
- Experience of using performance metrics, student feedback, and academic outcomes to drive improvement.
- Experience of leading and developing teams.
- Strong understanding of learning, teaching, and assessment within higher education.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, risks, and root causes.
- Ability to use evidence to drive improvement in teaching quality and student outcomes.
- Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, and evidence-informed decision-making.
- Ability to maintain a visible and active presence across multiple campuses, delivery locations, and teaching schedules.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Doctorate or recognised expertise in learning and teaching, academic practice, or quality assurance.
- Fellowship of Advance HE or equivalent professional recognition.
- Experience within a multi-campus higher education environment.
- Experience of working with awarding partners and external quality assurance bodies.
