Position Summary
The Flooring Estimator prepares accurate, complete, and competitive estimates for residential construction projects. This role reviews architectural plans and project specifications; performs material and labor takeoffs; and develops bid packages for flooring, showers and other vertical surfaces, and countertops. Using RFMS, Excel, and supporting project documentation, the estimator also creates drawings and selection documents as required by builder clients and works closely with vendors, builders, and internal team members to resolve questions and submit bids on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Download and review architectural plans, specifications, scopes of work, bid sheets, and related project documents.
- Perform detailed takeoffs and enter measurements into estimating software to calculate material and labor quantities.
- Apply current material, labor, and related costs to develop accurate project estimates.
- Create Excel-based bid templates and proposals, and prepare complete supporting documentation for builder-client submission.
- Create builder-required selection documents, including color-coded flooring and countertop mini plans.
- Prepare shower and tub line drawings and other supplemental drawings needed for bid or package submissions.
- Learn and use the RFMS flooring measuring and takeoff system, along with Inspire Interiors' established estimating processes.
- Communicate with vendors, builders, and internal team members to obtain missing information, clarify scope, and complete bids.
- Review work for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements before submission.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 5+ years of residential flooring estimating experience.
- Expert in Microsoft Excel, creating formulas and bid templates.
- Knowledge in Microsoft Office application, Adobe, and Sketchup software.
- Working knowledge of residential construction operations and installation methods.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Experience using flooring takeoff or measurement software.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Dependable, accountable, and able to manage multiple bid deadlines with a positive, solutions-oriented approach.
