About the Role

Community Lending Officer

We are seeking experienced Mortgage Originators for a Community Lending Officer role to support our diverse communities. The Community Lending Originator supports educational activities, outreach efforts, and the full-cycle lending process for all Washington Trust clients, and potential clients, with a concentration on first-time home buyers and customers in designated CRA lending areas. The Community Lending Originator strengthens and develops strong community relationships and supports the growth and development of Washington Trust in Massachusetts.

Washington Trust is well known for our community involvement. We believe that our success as an institution is part and parcel of the achievement of the communities as a whole. We are seeking professionals who share our passion and support our core values of quality, collaboration, integrity, agility, and community.

This position requires 3+ years of mortgage origination experience with a proven record of developing networks, attracting new clients, and sales delivery. The ideal candidate will have experience working with low to moderate income borrowers. Strong communication, public speaking, and presentation skills, as well as strong attention to detail, are required. Fluency in Spanish preferred. NMLS is required.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to be part of the community through Financial Literacy programs, developing and maintaining community relationships with non-profit agencies, community development corporations and local groups, assisting home buyers with grants and residential loan products.

Key to your success in this role will be:

  • In-depth knowledge of the mortgage industry, products, lending practices and guidelines
  • Ability to grow through referral networks to minimum monthly production goal of $750k with focus on servicing low and moderate income borrowers.
  • Strong communication, networking, and analytical skills

All of our mortgage professionals can rely on an outstanding team of back room support to process applications quickly and accurately. You'll have confidence knowing your loan packages will be taken care of, as if you were personally processing them every step of the way. Washington Trust boasts a highly seasoned and successful processing and underwriting team. You'll also experience support at all levels. In addition to your team, you'll have a manager that is genuinely interested in your success, as well as access to senior management.

Massachusetts requires Washington Trust to provide a good-faith, reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role for individuals working in our Massachusetts office. This position is commission based with earnings tied to performance under our commission plan. Estimated annual earnings range from $78,000 to $250,000 (based on meeting production standards and historical results; higher earnings possible with top performance). Commissions are paid biweekly.

  • 401(k) with company match
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Life and Disability Insurance
  • Discounts on banking services
  • Flexible schedule and hybrid/remote options within MA
  • Opportunities for professional and personal development

Our employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health and welfare benefits, paid time-off, work-life program, and a 401(k) plan. We believe employees who are valued, recognized, rewarded and empowered, will achieve personal and professional growth.
