About the Role

DevSecOps Engineer (Infrastructure)

Location: Remote - Anywhere in Canada

The total target compensation (TTC) range, including salary and target bonus, is $90,470 - $139,520. This TTC range is applicable to permanent roles only; fixed-term contract and casual roles are not eligible for annual bonus and would receive only the base salary component. The actual base salary offered within this range will be determined by the successful candidate's skills and experience, as well as internal equity.

Empire Life is looking to hire a DevSecOps Engineer (Infrastructure) to join our Technical Infrastructure team! We are actively seeking candidates to fill a current, open position.

The DevSecOps Engineer (Infrastructure) at Empire Life designs and maintains the building of Internal Developer Platform (IDP) toolchains and workflows. This role enables self-service capabilities for software engineering teams while providing operational support for a sophisticated multi-cloud environment, specifically focusing on Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The incumbent is guided by defined goals and works under the general supervision of the Director, IT Cloud Transformations & Infrastructure.

Why pursue this opportunity

  1. Our mission - Provide expertise and intelligent solutions to help Canadians navigate life with confidence.
  2. Join a transforming business - we are a medium-sized Canadian company in a stable industry that emphasizes the importance of innovation to use industry-leading technology.
  3. The environment - we understand the importance of work-life balance and strive to provide a supportive work environment that allows our employees to achieve both personal and professional goals.
  4. Impactful work - get the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that have a positive impact on our customers, our company, and society as a whole.

What you'll be working on

  • IDP Innovation: Innovate, design, and maintain Internal Development Platforms to enable a seamless development and deployment experience.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Support the development and technical review of IaC, ensuring scalability across both Azure and GCP.
  • AI & Agentic Integration: Leverage AI and agentic development frameworks to automate routine platform tasks and enhance developer productivity through "paved road" abstractions.
  • Security & Compliance: Move quickly without compromising system security or data privacy, ensuring compliance with all company and regulator requirements.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with PMs, SREs, and Initiative leads to facilitate deployment goals and manage change requests.
  • Operational Excellence: Ensure readiness and documentation for all deployment workstreams, monitoring systems to take preventative action according to security policies.
  • Minimal Disruption: Coordinate change management tasks to ensure minimal service disruptions to business systems.
What we're looking for you to have
  • Education: University degree or college diploma in a related discipline.
  • Experience: 3+ years of work experience in enterprise systems.
  • Multi-Cloud Expertise: Technical proficiency with Azure and GCP is required. Cloud-specific DevOps certifications are highly valued.
  • Containerization: Deep experience with Docker and Kubernetes; certifications like CKA, CKAD, or CKS are preferred.
  • Automation & Tooling: Strong experience in Agile, DevSecOps, and CI/CD (Git, GitOps, ArgoCD).
  • Proficiency in Terraform or similar IaC tools.
  • Asset: Experience with Ansible for configuration management and orchestration.
  • Emerging Tech: Strong asset: Knowledge of AI and agentic development patterns (e.g., using LLMs for automated scripting or autonomous system monitoring).
  • Technical Foundations: Experience in Linux server administration, scripting, and a strong understanding of IAM, network security, and encryption.
  • Soft Skills: Well-developed communication skills for collaborating across diverse business lines.
  • If you are applying for a position which is open to applicants across Canada, unless otherwise indicated in the position, language proficiency in English is required for communicating with customers, advisors, or employees across Canada.
  • Our hiring process includes AI screening for keywords and minimum qualifications. Recruiters review all results.
Beyond the salary

  • Hybrid work model
  • Competitive salaries with annual pay increases
