Business Services & Consulting

About the Role

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer based in the United States.

This role is a high-impact engineering leadership position focused on designing, standardizing, and optimizing electrical and instrumentation systems across upstream oil and gas facilities.
It plays a critical part in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient power distribution and control systems that support large-scale energy production operations.
You will lead both design and field execution activities, bridging engineering, construction, operations, and external utility stakeholders.
The role combines deep technical expertise with hands-on project involvement, including commissioning, troubleshooting, and system optimization.
You will operate in a fast-paced, high-volume environment where agility, precision, and collaboration are essential to success.
This position directly influences facility performance, operational uptime, and safety compliance across multiple assets.
It is ideal for an engineer who thrives in complex industrial environments and enjoys delivering practical, high-value solutions in the field.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead the development and maintenance of standardized electrical design systems for upstream facilities, including power distribution, MCCs, VFDs, grounding, heat tracing, and motor control systems.
  • Specify, procure, and evaluate electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, and panels, ensuring alignment with safety, reliability, and cost requirements.
  • Oversee electrical engineering support across project lifecycles, including design, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning phases.
  • Develop and review site-specific electrical deliverables such as one-lines, load calculations, grounding plans, area classifications, and cable/conduit schedules.
  • Coordinate with utilities, vendors, and construction teams to ensure timely energization, compliance, and successful field execution.
  • Lead arc flash studies and ensure proper labeling and compliance with NFPA 70E and other applicable safety standards.
  • Support commissioning activities including testing, energization, troubleshooting, and system validation prior to operational handover.
  • Provide technical leadership during HAZOPs, PHAs, and design reviews while ensuring alignment with engineering and operational standards.
  • Engage directly with operations teams to resolve field issues and improve system reliability and maintainability.
  • Drive continuous improvement in electrical design standards, construction practices, and operational performance across assets.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong background in electrical systems within oil & gas, industrial, or large-scale infrastructure environments.
  • Deep knowledge of low- and medium-voltage power systems, including motor control, VFDs, MCCs, grounding, and heat tracing systems.
  • Familiarity with NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 70E, API RP 500/505, and hazardous area classification standards.
  • Proven experience supporting electrical design, construction, commissioning, and field troubleshooting activities.
  • Ability to interpret engineering deliverables including P&IDs, PFDs, one-line diagrams, and electrical layout drawings.
  • Experience performing or managing arc flash studies (ETAP preferred) and ensuring compliance with electrical safety requirements.
  • Strong coordination skills with utilities, engineering teams, operations, and contractors in complex project environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills in fast-paced, execution-driven settings.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% and operate effectively in hybrid field and office environments.
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary range of approximately $200,000 - $225,000 USD.
  • Annual bonus program and long-term incentive opportunities.
  • Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with employer matching contributions.
  • Paid time off and flexible hybrid working arrangement (office + remote).
  • Exposure to large-scale energy infrastructure projects with strong technical and operational impact.
  • Professional development opportunities in a global, high-performance engineering environment.
  • Additional wellbeing and support programs designed to enhance work-life balance.
