Railroad Manager

Following significant growth, Arup Canada's Infrastructure team is looking for a railroad manager to support large-scale transportation and mass transit projects. Reporting directly to the head of the railroad and infrastructure market in Montreal, the selected individual will lead a team of talented professionals and manage the delivery of a wide rangeof infrastructure projects.

  • Provide technical and team leadership for the rail and railway systems team of the Montreal office and related disciplines (civil engineering, buildings, roads, and mass transit).
  • Support and consult the Montreal management team and existing teams to act as the “second manager.”
  • Strengthen the current team in project management and technical skills.
  • Act as a project manager or project director as appropriate.
  • Lead change management and foster increased collaboration between teams.
  • Provide leadership to the current and future team by sharing project management knowledge and best practices in railway engineering, railway networks, and other related transport disciplines.
  • Foster professional development of team members through mentoring and coaching.
  • Collaborate proactively with clients and contractors to implement high-quality, technically efficient, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Work within budgets and achieve expected profits.
  • Promote a culture and implement processes that promote quality results.
  • Monitor project progress, milestones, and deliverables to identify and address project problems or risks for projects and for Arup.
  • Support business development and growth in the railroad sector by developing relationships with new clients and key collaborators.
  • Promote a positive culture through concrete actions, encouragement, and support. Identify potential clients and projects aligned with the company's expertise and strategic objectives.

Are you the person we are looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, railway engineering, or mass transit planning.
  • Fluency in French, both orally and in technical and commercial writing.
  • More than 15 years of experience in railway design or mass transit, as well as in the management of complex infrastructure projects and multidisciplinary team leadership.
  • Professional engineer (P.Eng.) title in Quebec or Ontario, or ability to obtain it quickly.
  • Strong understanding of the railway markets, mass transit, and construction in Montreal and Quebec.
  • Experience working with contractual models such as design-build, public-private partnerships (PPP), as well as progressive and alliance models, including good commercial understanding and experience in writing proposals.
  • Strong professional networks within the potential client market and recognized reputation in a relevant field of expertise.
  • Excellent knowledge of Canadian engineering standards and other applicable technical procedures.
  • Experience in business development.
  • Ability to work under pressure, establish and manage priorities, meet deadlines; strong organizational skills required for our rapidly evolving environment.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills with colleagues and clients at all levels. Experience in project planning and design, preparation of contractual documents, and project administration on sites for clients.
  • Experience in leading a team of engineers.
