About the Role

Job Title

Environmental Cleanup Specialist

Duties

At the full performance level of this position, you will:

  • Design, prepare, oversee and/or review studies and/or technical documents to investigate and cleanup the release of petroleum and/or hazardous contaminants to the environment and ensure long-term effectiveness of cleanups to protect human health and the environment.
  • Serve as project management expert related to the clean-up program and act as a designated subject-matter expert related to technical complexities associated with site clean-up efforts to ensure compliant, high-quality cleanups and achievement of program objectives.
  • Direct contractors and serve as technical lead on contracting matters and/or oversee state partners in the performance of work to assess/evaluate and cleanup sites impacted by petroleum and/or hazardous contaminants to ensure compliant, effective remediation and fulfillment of program commitments.
  • Lead enforcement activities, including assisting in the identification of Potentially Responsible Parties (PRPs) and monitoring compliance with orders/agreements to secure compliance and accountability.

If you are hired at a grade level lower than the full performance level (i.e., highest promotion potential level), your duties will be less complex and you will have more supervisory oversight.You may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.NOTE: Career ladder promotions are not automatic, and all eligibility and qualifications requirements must be met in order to progress to the next grade level.You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.

One or more positions may be filled (in the organization advertised and/or in other organizations), if appropriate to the position.
