Director of Engineering-Life Sciences

Position Description: We are seeking a highly experienced, client-focused engineering leader to lead and grow our Life Sciences Engineering division.This individual will serve as a strategic advisor and technical leader for clients across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, and advanced manufacturing sectors.The ideal candidate combines deep mechanical and/or civil engineering expertise with strong business acumen, project leadership, and relationship management capabilities.

The Director of Life Sciences Engineering will oversee complex facility and infrastructure projects while driving client engagement, operational excellence, business development, and engineering delivery across multiple programs and accounts.This role requires a proven leader who can successfully manage multidisciplinary teams, build trusted client relationships, and deliver innovative engineering solutions in highly regulated environments.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary client-facing engineering leader for Life Sciences accounts and strategic projects.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, and manufacturing clients.
  • Provide strategic guidance and technical consulting related to facility infrastructure, capital projects, operational improvements, and engineering solutions.
  • Support business development efforts including proposals, presentations, client meetings, and scope development.
  • Identify opportunities for division growth, operational expansion, and long-term client partnerships.
Engineering & Project Leadership
  • Lead the planning, design, and execution of complex engineering and infrastructure projects including:
    • Pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities
    • Laboratories and cleanrooms
    • Utility and process infrastructure
    • HVAC and mechanical systems
    • Site development and civil infrastructure
    • Water, gas, steam, and utility distribution systems
  • Oversee multidisciplinary engineering teams, consultants, contractors, and vendors throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
  • Provide technical oversight for engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and construction documentation.
  • Lead engineering reviews, risk assessments, feasibility studies, and infrastructure evaluations.
Operational Excellence & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, FDA, OSHA, environmental, and applicable building code requirements.
  • Drive engineering best practices, quality standards, and process improvements across the division.
  • Implement sustainable and energy-efficient engineering solutions to support client operational goals.
  • Support commissioning, validation, startup, and operational readiness activities.
Team Leadership & Division Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams including mechanical, civil, structural, and project engineering staff.
  • Foster a collaborative, client-focused, and high-performance culture within the division.
  • Support resource planning, staffing, budgeting, and division performance management.
  • Assist in establishing strategic direction, service offerings, and operational priorities for the Life Sciences Engineering practice.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience in engineering design, infrastructure, facility projects, or construction management within Life Sciences, pharmaceutical, biotech, or industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading client-facing engineering projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong background in facility infrastructure, utility systems, mechanical systems, civil/site development, and regulated facility environments.
  • Proven experience managing complex capital projects, budgets, schedules, and stakeholder relationships.
  • Knowledge of GMP, FDA, OSHA, environmental, and industry regulatory requirements.
  • Strong communication, leadership, business development, and client management skills.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, and related engineering/design software.
Education & Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • OSHA Safety Certification
