About the Role

Assistant Engineering Manager

GAI Consultants has a career-building opportunity for an Assistant Engineering Manager within our Power Business Unit's Civil and Environmental Engineering Business Sector.GAI is an established multi-disciplined engineering firm with tremendous growth opportunities in Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.The successful candidate will enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their related experience to develop professionally and grow in today's global environment.This position is Hybrid, can be a fully Remote position for the right candidate.

GAI's Power Business Unit focuses on developing and supporting Energy, Institutional, Industrial, and Manufacturing clients.

As an Assistant Engineering Manager at GAI, you will have the opportunity to manage civil engineering and permitting tasks, delegate and provide direction to engineering/drafting staff, and lead and review the development of calculations, drawings, and associated project deliverables.You also will develop proposals and monitor budgets.

Communication skills are essential to this position, as an Assistant Engineering Manager will need to effectively coordinate with internal and external clients as well as their Engineering Division Manager, Business Sector Leader, and other engineering discipline leads (such as mechanical, electrical, process, environmental, and geotechnical engineering).

Job duties include planning, designing, and facilitating civil engineering project design tasks such as site grading and drainage design; access road design; erosion and sediment pollution control design; stormwater management design; report preparation; and permitting.Task management duties include being in responsible charge of technical work, staff planning, budget/schedule management, scope change management, quality assurance/peer reviews, report writing, staff mentorship, and client coordination.Proposal preparation including the scope and budget development and interdisciplinary coordination.

In addition to proposal preparation, written communication may include the preparation of site reports, narratives, meeting minutes, and project memorandums.Collaborate with other engineering leads to schedule resource and QA/QC peer reviews.Independently conduct field condition assessments.Performance of bid and construction phase services including responding to bidder questions, responding to contractor requests for information, and submittal reviews, site visits, and verifying change order documentation.A current, valid driver's license is required.Professional Engineering License preferred.P.E. license in multiple states is a plus.

Travel to other offices/meet with clients/attend project-specific meetings.

General characteristics include applying thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering related to the variety of aspects affecting their practice. Applying progressively acquired expertise to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions. Keeping informed of new methods and developments affecting their practice and recommending new practices or changes in emphasis of projects. Leading projects of moderate complexity and scope or leading a major project. Analyzing complex problems across specialty areas appropriate to the practice of engineering. Analyzing ethical dilemmas to determine appropriate courses of action.

Minimum years of experience required: 5 – 10 years' experience in relevant field.Education: B.S. or M.S.Engineering.Certification/Licensure: Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states (preferred not required).Technical responsibilities include occasionally serving as the technical advisor for the practice in the application of advanced concepts and methods in an assigned area.Keeping informed of new developments and requirements affecting the practice for the purpose of recommending changes in projects or applications.Occasionally developing new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products.

Values and analyzes sustainable performance of complex engineering projects from a systems perspective.

Project and task management includes occasionally planning, scheduling, and coordinating the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects or is responsible for an entire project of a practice. Analyzing project management plans for complex engineering projects. Understanding project delivery uncertainties and using risk management principles to address them. Reviewing operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.

Management responsibility includes supervising a staff of engineers and technicians. Receiving administrative supervision with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits. Providing continued mentored experience to senior staff. Integrating professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering and fostering creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability in staff.

Communication skills include applying principles of formal strategic and persuasive communications. Representing their area of specialty within the practice and liaising with related individuals and practices. Routinely interacting with practice leaders, clients, officials, contractors, and others. Integrating concepts of effective teamwork and leadership.
