The Department of Corrections is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Financial Specialist Advanced position located at Green Bay Correctional Institution in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Position Summary

This position provides highly complex levels of accounting, auditing and bookkeeping oversight for multiple programs and funding sources at Green Bay Correctional Institution (GBCI). This position serves as lead worker for two Financial Specialist positions in the business office. This position audits and reviews financial transactions including cost allocation patterns for general institution operations, federal grants, resident accounts, direct pay vouchers, journal and deposit vouchers, revenue generating programs, warehouse operations, canteen operations, and telephone revenue. The position is also responsible for the preparation, processing and reconciliation of a wide variety of fiscal transactions including preparation of reports to GBCI management staff on those transactions and recommendation and implementation of appropriate procedural enhancements. This position prepares complex documents and reports ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, the Department of Administration (DOA), and the Department of Corrections (DOC) internal controls, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), and policies/procedures.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule/range 02-15 with a starting pay rate of $30.47/hour and an add-on of $5/hour for all hours worked, plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the Compensation Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code, and statutes. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

This position is not eligible for remote work.

Qualifications

Q ualified applicants will have experience:
  • Auditing invoices for accuracy against receiving reports, purchase order, bids and encumbrances and processing payments using a computerized accounting system.
  • Leading, guiding, or coaching other staff (e.g. training, advising, reviewing work, problem solving, etc.)
  • Completing fiscal audits and reconciliations and creating reports
