About the Role
As a WC&D Principal Engineer you will provide engineering services for treatment and final storage of radioactive waste including process system design, unit process design, regulatory/licensing interface support, bid development, and overall facility design integration. You will report to the Waste Characterization and Disposal Manager and be located at Springfield. Position is remote.
Key Responsibilities
- Definition of waste acceptance criteria and complementary procedures and technical specifications
- Waste packages activity calculations for Low and Intermediate Level Waste, Very Low Level Waste, storage units, large dimensions waste like equipment and components and singular waste
- Calculation and definition of the scaling factors from the sampling activity results and statistical techniques and applications and radionuclide vectors calculation and validation
- Preparation of engineering documents (calculation reports, descriptions, licensing documents, and specifications)
- Carrying out production control of waste generation in the Nuclear Power Plants (Quality Assurance process)
- Participation in preparation of proposals (technical descriptions, calculation of efforts)
- Resolve and provide technical leadership for complex, emergent and industry issues, and interface with our customers and other teams within Westinghouse
- Resolve and provide technical leadership for special projects· Lead engineering design and analyses and propose solutions to complex problems that are not well defined
- Coordinate and integrate complex technical projects that encompass diverse teams; achieve established budget and schedule requirements, manage project risks, and develop mitigation strategies
- Provide technical leadership for general code, procedure, and method development updates
- Mentor mid‑level and senior engineers, helping them grow in technical breadth and depth and coach less‑experienced engineers
- Translate business needs into scalable and maintainable technical solutions. Represent the engineering organization in audits, technical reviews, and external collaborations when needed
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Science (Physics or Chemistry) or engineering At least 10 years of relevant experience in projects in the field of characterization engineering and acceptance of nuclear waste Good knowledge about nuclear waste management systems Fluency in Spanish: must speak and write Spanish perfectly. Fluent in English with proven reporting skills MS Office products knowledge Strong technical interest, predisposition for multi-tasking, flexibility, understanding of project priorities and teamwork abilities Working in international teams Travelling and onsite activities (worldwide) Driving License
