About the Role

Backend Automation Engineer

Location: Remote

Experience Level: Mid to Senior (5+ years)

Employment Type: Full-time

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Automation Engineer with strong expertise in JavaScript and backend systems testing. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust automated test frameworks to ensure the quality and reliability of our backend services and APIs. You will collaborate cross-functionally with Product Managers, QA, Development, and Customer Support teams to deliver high-quality, scalable, and efficient automation solutions that enhance overall product quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with a team of developers and QA professionals to deliver high-quality test automation and products.
  • Collaborate closely with PM, QA, Development, and Customer Support teams on Omni Catalog features, incorporating them into automated functional test scenarios.
  • Design, implement, and maintain API-level automated tests that ensure reliability, scalability, and accuracy.
  • Analyze test results, triage issues, debug failures, and work with developers to reproduce and resolve defects.
  • Focus on an “Automation First” approach, striving for 100% automation coverage through fast, reliable test suites.
  • Integrate automated tests into a Continuous Integration (CI/CD) environment to enable rapid feedback and deployment cycles.
  • Advocate for testability, maintainability, and quality across the entire software development lifecycle.
  • Continuously improve automation processes, frameworks, and best practices.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in functional and automation testing of microservices.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Java and scripting languages (especially JavaScript).
  • Solid experience with API-level automation using Java or JavaScript frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Proven ability to learn and adopt new technology stacks quickly.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
  • Experience with tools like Postman, RestAssured, Selenium, Playwright, or Cypress.
  • Knowledge of Cloud-based applications and distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or other containerization technologies.
  • Experience integrating automation with CI tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
  • Exposure to data-driven testing and performance testing frameworks.
Who You Are
  • You enjoy functional testing of microservices and find satisfaction in improving system reliability.
  • You thrive on variety in your day-to-day work rather than writing code all day.
  • You have a passion for automation and improving customer experience through high-quality software.
  • You are analytical, detail-oriented, and committed to driving excellence in product quality.
  • You take ownership, enjoy solving complex problems, and are always looking for ways to optimize workflows.
Why Join Us
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge backend systems and large-scale distributed applications.
  • Collaborative work culture with passionate technologists.
  • Exposure to modern CI/CD, automation, and cloud technologies.
