About the Role

Our client, a nuclear technology company, is looking for a Senior Component Design Engineer to lead advanced reactor component design.This role manages complex mechanical systems development and supplier oversight.Location: United States - Remote Duration: 12 Month Contract Compensation: $56 - $95 per hour.Additional Compensation: This position is not eligible for bonus or incentive compensation.Benefits: Benefits available to eligible employees or consultants may include medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid sick leave, retirement savings plans, and other employer sponsored programs.

US citizens and those authorized to work in the US are encouraged to apply.Work sponsorship is not available currently.Summary: This is a senior-level design engineering role with responsibility for lead-level mechanical component development.The position focuses on complex component design, supplier coordination, and delivering high-quality design packages, with an emphasis on ASME Section III compliance, advanced analysis methods, and design rigor.The engineer will lead design reviews and provide technical mentoring to junior engineering staff.Key Responsibilities:

  • Design reactor structures and components from requirements through final design.
  • Coordinate inputs from engineering and project teams to develop component design solutions.
  • Perform scoping analysis and calculations for design options and alternatives.
  • Interface with team engineering analysis activities and integrate results into design.
  • Present component design results for design review meetings.
  • Assess technical merit of solutions provided by team members; lead design reviews.
  • Interface with equipment suppliers for design and fabrication issue resolution.
  • Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices.
  • Mentor junior design engineers and provide technical guidance on design standards.
Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years equipment/component design experience; M.S. degree counts as 2 years experience.
  • Working experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III.
  • Experience writing design specifications and engineering design reports.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Demonstrated expertise with finite element stress analysis and ANSYS or equivalent tools.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; demonstrated creative thinking.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction on complex problems.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools; SolidWorks preferred.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience with slewing ring bearings or comparable rotating equipment.
  • Experience with elastomeric seal design and specification.
  • Leadership experience guiding junior engineers on technical matters.
  • Background in advanced reactor design or development programs.
