About the Role

Principal Environmental Scientist / Engineer, Contaminated Land

Are you ready to lead and shape the future of contaminated land management? Join our growing Geosciences team as a Principal Environmental Scientist / Engineer, Contaminated Land and be a part of building and growing this critical service stream. In this senior role, you'll deliver strategic solutions to complex environmental challenges, mentor a talented team, and actively pursue contaminated land and waste management projects to drive business success.

This position is based in our Perth office and offers flexible working arrangements, including work-from-home options, staggered hours, and additional Purchased Leave to support your work-life balance. You'll be part of a supportive and collaborative environment that values your expertise and invests in your professional development, offering tailored training and long-term career growth opportunities.

As part of the Contaminated Land team, you will:

  • Initiate, plan, lead and execute complex contaminated land and groundwater projects.
  • Preparation and review of technical reports, including bespoke PSI, SAQP, DSI, RAP, and SRV reports.
  • Provide technical direction to enable cost-effective and pragmatic solutions for our clients and other disciplinary teams.
  • Contribute to the mentoring and technical oversight of junior team members.
  • Preparation and negotiation of bids and fee proposals.
  • Provision of commercial oversight to projects to ensure favourable financial results.
  • Engage in client liaison and business development to help build and secure future workload.

To be successful for this role you'll need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Engineering, Hydrogeology or Geology.
  • 10+ years of experience leading complex contaminated land projects, with exposure to diverse environmental and engineering challenges across multiple sectors.
  • Proven capability in directing site investigations, supervising multidisciplinary teams, and applying advanced sampling methodologies for soil, groundwater, and other media.
  • Comprehensive understanding of NEPM guidelines and health & safety best practices, with the ability to embed compliance into project delivery.
  • Deep familiarity with WA planning frameworks and contaminated land provisions, enabling strategic advice and regulatory navigation.
  • Exceptional technical writing skills, producing high-quality reports and documentation for senior stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with a track record of managing project financials driving profitability, and fostering long-term client partnerships.
  • Technical expertise and experience in hydrogeology or acid sulfate soils would be beneficial.
  • Valid/current driver's licence and the ability to travel to sites for field work, if required.

This position is intended to be predominantly office based; however, applicants will be required to undertake site visits when necessary and therefore must be physically able to stand and work in the field.
