About the Role

Job Description:

The Sr. Manager - Sustainability Finance & Strategy will lead the financial strategy, analysis, governance, and value optimization of Pet Nutrition's sustainability agenda across Climate, Circularity, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). They will also serve asa strategic finance partner to Sustainability, Supply, and Corporate teams-enabling data-driven investment decisions, regulatory readiness, and long-term value creation by balancing financial returns with sustainability impact in support of Mars' 2030 ambitions.

What are we looking for?
  • 10+ years of Finance experience with strong FP&A and business partnering foundation
  • Proven leadership in strategic investment decisions and complex financial modeling
  • Experience in one or more of:
    • Sustainability / ESG finance
    • Supply chain finance
    • Regulatory or cost modeling environments
  • Strong ability to translate ambiguous, evolving environments into structured financial strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and operate across global, cross-functional teams
What will be your key responsibilities?

1. Strategic Finance Leadership - Sustainability Portfolio
  • Own financial stewardship of sustainability investments across Climate Action, Circular Packaging, and EPR
  • Lead prioritization and resource allocation, optimizing trade-offs across:
    • Financial impact (COGS, OH, CAB)
    • Regulatory risk mitigation (EPR, SB54, etc.)
    • Sustainability outcomes (carbon, circularity, materials)
  • Develop and embed frameworks to assess ROI, sustainability impact, and compliance (dual KPI lens), including IVCP/AEP integration
  • Shape the long-term sustainability investment roadmap aligned to Mars targets and business strategy
2. EPR Financial Strategy & Governance (Anchor Responsibility)

EPR is a rapidly evolving regulatory space with material financial exposure requiring centralized ownership, governance, and expertise.
  • Serve as Finance lead for EPR strategy, roadmap, and end-to-end financial modeling
  • Build enterprise capabilities to:
    • Forecast EPR fees, penalties, and cash impacts by state and portfolio
    • Model scenarios based on packaging design, weight, recyclability, and volumes
    • Develop financial and compliance guardrails to support innovation decisions
  • Establish governance for EPR-related financial compliance across PN NA, including partnership with accounting on accrual inputs
  • Partner cross-functionally (Sustainability, Commercial, Supply, Corporate Affairs, vendors) to identify and influence cost optimization levers
3. Business Partnering - Climate & Circularity
  • Partner with Climate and Sustainability teams to:
    • Embed financial rigor into Climate Action Plans (CAP) and packaging glidepaths
    • Translate sustainability targets into financial plans (IVCP, AEP, MBR)
  • Budgeting and forecasting for Regenerative Agriculture and emissions reduction programs
  • Provide decision support on marginal abatement cost vs. financial return trade-offs
  • Support leadership presentations on sustainability roadmaps, performance vs. targets, and financial implications, including ROI and resourcing recommendations
4. Performance Management & Reporting
  • Lead end-to-end sustainability financial reporting and insights, including:
    • Quarterly tracking of key programs (EPR, PCR, D4C, Regen Ag, SIG, Logistics, etc.)
    • Development and standardization of scorecards (e.g., Sustainability Tracker integration)
  • Ensure alignment between:
    • Financial performance (actuals vs. plan)
    • Sustainability outcomes (vs. targets)
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership
5. Value Creation & Business Case Development
  • Build, evaluate, and challenge business cases for sustainability investments, including:
    • COGS impacts (PCR, packaging redesign, Regen Ag, SIG, etc.)
    • Overhead and capability investments
    • External partnerships and regulatory compliance costs
  • Support the development of executive-ready materials (white papers, briefs) to inform investment decisions
  • Identify and drive cost savings, cost avoidance, and risk mitigation opportunities
6. Data, Systems & Capability Building
  • Partner with Data/Tech teams to:
    • Develop scalable tools (e.g., EPR calculators, forecasting models, sustainability financial tracking)
    • Partner on ideation with R&D and Commercial for data integrity across packaging, material, and emissions datasets
    • Development of Sustainability Financial Reporting Consolidation Tool
  • Establish standardized data models and governance for sustainability finance
  • Act as Finance lead in cross-functional transformation initiatives
7. Regulatory & External Readiness
  • Monitor emerging sustainability regulations (EPR, plastics, climate disclosures)
  • Translate regulatory developments into financial risks, scenarios, and strategic implications
  • Serve as Finance interface for external partners, consultants, and industry forums
Leadership & Impact:
  • Acts as a thought leader, advancing integration of sustainability into financial decision-making
  • Regularly engages PN NA leadership, Global Sustainability, and Corporate Finance
  • Drives cross-functional alignment across:
    • Supply Chain (Supply, Commercial, R&D)
    • Sustainability
    • Corporate Affairs
    • Finance
    • PN NA Leadership Team

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is between the below range, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, if eligible, including variable pay & general allowances (depending on the position and employee's work schedule). Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable policies and plans then in effect, and depending on the position offered and the employee's work schedule (i.e., part-time schedule), eligible employees are automatically enrolled in a 401(k) plan, as well as participate in Company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance plans for the employee and the employee's eligible dependents, and may be eligible to take up to 18 weeks of paid parental leave. Employees will also receive the following paid-time off (which may be prorated based on start date and the employee's work schedule): 120 hours of vacation per year, paid sick time for eligible Associates of 100% pay continuation for a maximum of 40 hours per calendar year, and 12 paid holidays throughout the calendar year that include both fixed and flexible holidays.
