Substation Design Engineer

We've teamed up with a leading power infrastructure engineering and services firm and they're seeking a Substation Design Engineer to design high-voltage electrical substation systems and deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet industry standards and client requirements. This role supports utility and energy infrastructure projects from design through construction, with opportunities to serve as a technical lead on complex assignments. Our client offers a robust compensation and benefits package, plus this is a remote role with domestic travel as needed to client sites and field locations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design physical layouts and systems for high-voltage substations, including equipment layout, grounding, conduit, and material take-offs.
• Develop construction drawing packages and review contractor submittals.
• Perform quality reviews of engineering work for internal teams and subcontractors.
• Serve as Lead Engineer and/or Engineer of Record on assigned projects.
• Support project proposals, bids, and schedules as needed.
• Provide technical support during construction and resolve field issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.
• Travel to client sites and field locations as required.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar from an ABET-accredited program.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Preference for candidates based in Louisiana, Georgia, and Virginia
• 5+ years of experience in substation engineering within utilities or energy sectors.
• Experience with ETAP, WinIGS, and IEEE standards (80/998).
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Inventor, Bentley MicroStation, and/or Bentley Substation (3D experience a plus).
• Strong communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.
