About the Role
Substation Design Engineer
We've teamed up with a leading power infrastructure engineering and services firm and they're seeking a Substation Design Engineer to design high-voltage electrical substation systems and deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet industry standards and client requirements. This role supports utility and energy infrastructure projects from design through construction, with opportunities to serve as a technical lead on complex assignments. Our client offers a robust compensation and benefits package, plus this is a remote role with domestic travel as needed to client sites and field locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Design physical layouts and systems for high-voltage substations, including equipment layout, grounding, conduit, and material take-offs.
Develop construction drawing packages and review contractor submittals.
Perform quality reviews of engineering work for internal teams and subcontractors.
Serve as Lead Engineer and/or Engineer of Record on assigned projects.
Support project proposals, bids, and schedules as needed.
Provide technical support during construction and resolve field issues.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.
Travel to client sites and field locations as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar from an ABET-accredited program.
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Preference for candidates based in Louisiana, Georgia, and Virginia
5+ years of experience in substation engineering within utilities or energy sectors.
Experience with ETAP, WinIGS, and IEEE standards (80/998).
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Inventor, Bentley MicroStation, and/or Bentley Substation (3D experience a plus).
Strong communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.
