Over time, the candidate will be trained to assist with additional shop preparation activities, including organizing materials, preparing wires, staging components, and supporting wiring technicians with day-to-day production needs.

This is a hands-on role suited for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, willing to learn, and comfortable working in a fabrication shop environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drilling holes in cabinet backplates based on layout drawings, markings, or instructions.
  • Using power hand tools and basic shop tools safely and properly.
  • Preparing backplates and enclosures for the assembly and wiring stages.

  • Helping ensure wiring technicians have the materials they need to perform their work without delay.
  • Learning how to prepare and organize wires for upcoming panel wiring activities.
  • Keeping the work area clean, organized, and safe.
  • Following shop procedures, safety guidelines, and supervisor instructions.
  • Reading basic layout instructions, drawings, labels, and job-related documentation.
  • Supporting multiple shop tasks as needed based on production priorities.
  • Communicating clearly with supervisors and technicians when materials, tools, or information are missing.
  • Inspecting work for accuracy before handing it off to the next stage.
  • Assisting with general fabrication shop duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Able to safely operate power hand tools, including drills and other basic fabrication tools
  • Capable of reading instructions and willing to learn technical shop processes
  • Detail-oriented and able to follow layouts, measurements, and instructions accurately
  • Patience and consistency when performing repetitive tasks
  • Able to stay organized while handling multiple tasks
  • Strong hand-eye coordination
  • Punctuality, reliability, and willingness to take direction
  • Able to work efficiently without sacrificing accuracy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a fabrication shop, panel shop, electrical assembly shop, or manufacturing environment.
  • Basic understanding of hand tools, drill bits, fasteners, measuring tools, and shop safety.
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
  • Experience working from simple layouts, drawings, or marked-up instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical control panels, cabinets, or backplates.
  • Forklift or material handling experience is a plus but not required.
  • Experience organizing parts, tools, and materials for production work.

Physical Requirements:

  • Stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the shop for extended periods.
  • Lift, carry, and move materials within 5-50 lbs
  • Use power tools and hand tools repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Work around cabinets, backplates, components, wiring materials, and shop equipment.
  • Perform tasks that require accuracy, focus, and manual dexterity.
  • Follow all safety requirements, including use of PPE when required.
