About the Role
This contract position offers an opportunity to serve as an itinerant teacher for visually impaired students in Suffolk, VA. The role involves managing a caseload of approximately 20-25 students from kindergarten through 12th grade, providing specialized telehealth services across the district. Collaboration with a virtual Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) and support from a technology specialist for AAC devices are integral components of the position.
Key responsibilities include:
Delivering itinerant instruction tailored to the needs of visually impaired students.
Acting as case manager for students with prescribed visual impairments.
Developing, writing, and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Coordinating with related services staff to ensure comprehensive support for students.
Utilizing telehealth platforms to provide effective remote instruction.
Qualifications for this role:
Valid Virginia Department of Education license for teaching visually impaired students.
At least 2 years of recent teaching experience.
Demonstrated ability to create and implement IEPs.
Strong collaboration skills with educational and related services professionals.
This position requires flexibility to work across multiple school locations throughout the district. The professional environment supports the enhancement of skills in delivering specialized education services within a telehealth model.
