Global Portfolio Strategy Specialist

Location: San Diego, CA

Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid - 3 days onsite required per week

Contract Details
  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 6 months
  • Pay Rate: $30.00-$36.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Days (1st Shift)
  • Travel Requirements: Ability to travel approximately 10-15%, including domestic and international travel.

Job Summary

The Global Portfolio Strategy Specialist will play a critical role in supporting our global portfolio strategy through robust business case development, management and maintenance of global portfolio roadmaps, market sizing models, evaluation and prioritization of business opportunities, and evaluation of international registries to ensure alignment with the client's long-term strategic and financial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Product Portfolio Strategy
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management and Commercial Marketing to identify, evaluate, and prioritize new customer needs and product opportunities.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the portfolio roadmap, including supporting strategic planning cycles to reassess and update roadmap as needed.
  • Partner with Global Product Managers to build financial models and strategic positioning to support business case development of new product opportunities.
  • Help create and maintain dashboards, trackers, and reporting tools to monitor global product opportunities and portfolio activity.
Market Intelligence & Analysis
  • Conduct secondary research on macroeconomic trends, competitor movements, and market sizing (TAM/SAM).
  • Collaborate with Commercial Analytics team to maintain global market sizing database by updating information from internal data, third-party research, and competitive intelligence.
  • Assist with basic sensitivity analyses, ROI calculations, and scenario modeling to support prioritization and investment opportunities.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Monitor and track operational expenditure (OPEX) spending against budget to identify and flag variances for Global Portfolio Strategy team.
  • Drive end-to-end routing, review, and internal approval for Statements of Work (SOWs) and Purchase Orders (POs).
  • Facilitate the setup of new external vendors within internal procurement systems.
  • Support additional Global Portfolio Strategy activities as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Strategic Thinking - the ability to see the big picture and translate mid-to-long-term goals into portfolio priorities.
  • Market Analysis - strong understanding of market sizing methodologies; ability to interpret trends and external drivers that influence portfolio direction.
  • Business Modeling - understanding of how value is created, measured, and sustained.
  • Financial Acumen - strong grasp of investment metrics and the ability to develop complex financial models and analyze data to support investment decisions.
  • Financial Analysis Tools - strong proficiency in Excel and experience using Tableau, Power BI, or other similar software systems.
  • Excellent Communication - ability to develop and deliver concise, data-backed recommendations to leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Must have at least one full-time role post-college (no purely academic/internship-heavy profiles).
  • Curious, analytical, and able to think outside the box.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and problem-solving.
  • Strong internal communicator.
Preferred Skills
  • Exposure to AI tools, automation, or process improvement.
  • Strategy, consulting, or analytical experience early in career.
  • Experience working with data, building insights, or making recommendations.
  • Open to broader medical device or healthcare experience; molecular diagnostics is a plus but not required.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Data Analytics, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
Required Experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in commercial operations, corporate strategy, financial planning & analysis (FP&A), management consulting, data analytics, or portfolio management, preferably in a highly regulated sector.
Nice-to-Have Experience
  • Target experience is approximately 3 years (sweet spot); maximum approximately 5 years.
  • Background in financial services, finance, business, economics, or MBA-type education preferred but not required.
  • Adjacent industry backgrounds considered if the analytical skillset is strong.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
  • Hybrid role based in San Diego; 3 days onsite required per week (flexibility possible for the right candidate).
  • This is a strategy/analytics-heavy role, not a general marketing or customer-facing position.
  • Cross-functional exposure with product, marketing, and sales teams.
