Our client is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to join a growing finance team supporting large-scale construction and mechanical contracting operations in the Columbus, OH area. This role will be responsible for managing key project accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, supporting project accounting activities, and helping drive continuous improvements across financial processes. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced project-based environment and possess strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Responsibilities - Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules
- Perform general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis
- Partner with project management teams to monitor project costs, billings, revenue recognition, and profitability
- Review work-in-progress schedules and assist with project financial forecasting
- Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to management
- Maintain fixed asset records and oversee depreciation schedules
- Assist with budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and financial planning activities
- Support external audits, tax preparation, and compliance reporting requirements
- Evaluate and strengthen internal accounting controls and procedures
- Assist with implementation and optimization of accounting systems and process improvements
- Mentor junior accounting staff and provide technical accounting guidance when needed
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience within construction, project-based, manufacturing, engineering, or contracting environments preferred
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles
- Experience with percentage-of-completion accounting and project costing is highly preferred
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis
- Experience with ERP and construction accounting software preferred
- CPA, CPA candidate, or public accounting experience is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
Pay Details: $85,000.00 to $105,000.00 per year
