About the Role

LHH is recruiting a Legal Assistant for the Cincinnati office of a national law firm. The Legal Assistant a ssists and relieves attorney of administrative and clerical work. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-intensive environment and possess excellent people skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities. The position requires the ability to think creatively and exercise independent judgment when necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Drafts and types legal documents and correspondence of legal nature such as summonses, complaints, motions, and subpoenas specific to the practice area of the attorney and/or legal assistant.
  • Reads, prioritizes, routes, and follows-up on incoming mail.
  • Takes dictation in shorthand or by machine and transcribes notes on computer or transcribes from voice recordings.
  • Edits for grammatical errors and content.
  • Composes and types of correspondence. Prepare engagement letters.
  • Assist with opening of new client matters.
  • Enter attorney time into time entry system. Review and edit billing proforma narratives. Prepares client bills in final form for review by the attorney. Resolves billing matters with other attorneys involved in the matter.
  • Prepare electronic expense reimbursement requests and submit invoices for payment.
  • Establishes filing system and creates and maintains indexes. Files correspondence and other documents and records.
  • Answers telephone and give information to callers or routes call to appropriate individual, takes messages and places outgoing calls.
  • Schedules appointments and maintains attorneys calendar. Schedules attorney practice including dates from correspondence and docket.
  • Arranges travel schedule and makes travel reservations with minimal guidance provided by the attorney.
  • Types, gathers, and maintains information for statistical reports. Formats the report.
  • Makes copies of correspondence or other printed matter.
  • Reviews law journals and other legal publications to identify court decisions pertinent to pending cases. Submits articles to attorneys and other individuals.
  • Desire to be ingrained in a team of professionals supporting long-term client relationships and an interest in learning about the clients and providing superior service.
  • Other duties as assigned.
