Legal Operations Program Manager (Contract)
Duration: 12-Month Contract (Potential for Extension or Conversion)
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 Hours/Week
Location: Remote
Compensation: Competitive, based on experience
About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking an experienced Legal Operations professional to support a global legal team in managing legal spend, outside counsel relationships, alternative fee arrangements (AFAs), and strategic operational initiatives. This role is ideal for a candidate with experience in both law firm and in-house legal environments who enjoys driving efficiencies, negotiating with outside counsel, and implementing process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Legal Operations Manager to support legal spend management initiatives across a global legal department.
  • Negotiate Alternative Fee Arrangements (AFAs) on high-spend legal matters and identify additional cost-saving opportunities.
  • Assist with training and education programs related to AFAs and legal vendor management.
  • Lead and support Requests for Proposal (RFP) processes, including vendor evaluations and stakeholder interviews.
  • Collaborate with legal and procurement teams to develop and standardize RFP templates.
  • Build and maintain RFP templates within the organization's RFP management platform.
  • Draft and maintain process documentation, workflows, playbooks, and best practices.
  • Support rollout and management of Master Relationship Agreement (MRA) programs with law firms.
  • Negotiate billing rates and pricing arrangements with outside counsel.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to drive operational improvements and process enhancements.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in legal operations, legal project management, outside counsel management, or related areas.
  • Prior experience working within both a law firm and an in-house legal department.
  • Experience managing projects and programs with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong contract negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Proven experience benchmarking outside counsel hourly rates.
  • Demonstrated legal pricing experience, including negotiating AFAs.
  • Experience developing and implementing operational improvements and process enhancements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PMP or similar project management certification.
  • Experience supporting a technology company or technology-focused legal department.
  • Familiarity with eBilling platforms.
  • Experience using RFP management software.
  • Exposure to Tableau or other reporting/dashboarding tools.
Success in This Role

  • Timely completion of projects and deliverables.
  • Accuracy and quality of work product.
  • Successful management of legal spend initiatives.
  • Effective stakeholder and vendor relationship management.
  • Execution of negotiations and operational improvement projects.
Interview Process
  • Round 1: Hiring Manager Interview (45 minutes)
  • Round 2: Team/Stakeholder Interview (45 minutes)
Hourly: $70-90/hr
