Job Title: Civil Project ManagerJob Description

The Civil Project Manager works with a collaborative team of engineers to plan, design, and deliver a wide range of commercial, retail, and residential developments. This role focuses on site development, utilities, grading, and drainage calculations, using AutoCAD Civil 3D to produce detailed engineering drawings. The Civil Project Manager oversees projects from concept through completion, conducts site visits and inspections, and coordinates closely with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure high-quality, on-time, and on-budget project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects across commercial, retail, residential, and industrial developments.

  • Develop site plans, including grading, drainage, zoning, and utility layouts, to meet project requirements and regulatory standards.

  • Prepare detailed civil engineering designs and construction documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D.

  • Perform stormwater management and drainage calculations to support site development and roadway design.

  • Support land development and site development projects from initial concept through final construction documentation.

  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, and internal engineering teams to define project scope, resolve design issues, and maintain clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Take ownership of assigned projects and drive them independently from concept to completion, ensuring alignment with project goals and standards.

  • Monitor project budgets and schedules, maintaining a strong understanding of cost, resource allocation, and deadlines.

  • Conduct site visits and field inspections to verify design intent, assess site conditions, and support construction activities.

  • Prepare and review engineering documents related to roadway, wastewater, and utility infrastructure as part of overall site design.

  • Collaborate on the preparation of zoning, permitting, and development documentation as needed for project approvals.

  • Ensure that all civil design work complies with applicable codes, standards, and best practices.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of project management experience in civil engineering or closely related fields.

  • Proven ability to run projects independently and take ownership from concept through completion.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil design and drafting.

  • Experience with commercial and industrial projects, including site development and land development.

  • Strong understanding of site planning, including grading, drainage, zoning, utilities, and stormwater management.

  • Demonstrated experience preparing construction documents and detailed civil design plans.

  • Knowledge of roadway, site design, and wastewater systems within land development projects.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, budgets, and deadlines effectively.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with clients, contractors, and internal teams.

  • Experience with land development and site development projects from feasibility through construction.

  • Background in civil engineering design, including grading, drainage, and stormwater systems.

  • Familiarity with professional engineer (PE) workflows and standards.

Work Environment

The Civil Project Manager typically works an average of 40 hours per week in a hybrid office and field setting.Approximately 75% of the role is office-based, focusing on design, coordination, and documentation using tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D.The remaining 25% involves fieldwork, including site visits and inspections at project locations.Most project sites are local to West Michigan, with occasional assignments in other areas of Michigan.
