Math Teacher Algebra II & Calculus

Girard College - Philadelphia, PA 19121

Girard College is a full scholarship boarding school that fosters intellectual curiosity, social development and emotional growth in academically focused students from underserved communities. We ensure every student the opportunity and the means to achieve excellence and preparation for advanced education through purposeful academic and residential programs.

Girard College seeks a certified Math Teacher to teach Algebra II and Calculus for our high school students. Our teachers implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction aligned to PA State Standards, work collaboratively with teachers in other disciplines as well as residential staff and participate fully in the school's academic and residential community. The position reports directly to the Principal of the High School.

Essential Expectations of Girard College Teachers Include but Are Not Limited to: Academic Achievement and Character Development: • Create a positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment • Motivate students to achieve high academic and behavioral standards • Investment in students and families in order to achieve our standard for academic success, and to meet our Core Values • Utilize data to drive instruction and learning intervention • Design and implement unit and lesson plans in collaboration with grade/subject teams A Mindset for Professional Growth and Development: • Collaborate with building leaders, instructional coaches, teacher leaders and colleagues to continuously improve instructional, culture-building and leadership skills • Participate enthusiastically in all professional development, instructional planning, teacher/residential collaborative team meetings, community meetings and MTSS meetings • Function as a school wide partner in helping to raise student achievement and character for all students in the school.

Reinforcing school-wide expectations and volunteering to take on additional activities as needed to improve school academics and culture.Desired Teacher Characteristics: • Strong instructional and classroom management skills. • High level of personal organization and planning. • Team player: maturity, humility, grit, flexible, follow-through, sense of humor, open to feedback and a "roll-up-my-sleeves" attitude. • Strong belief in the Girard College mission and its core values • Mastery of and enthusiasm for a growth mindset towards personal/professional growth, student outcomes, and subject matter.

Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience highly preferred with a proven record of high academic and social achievement
  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree in Education, in the specific core content job area
  • Must possess a minimum of a State of Pennsylvania Level I Instructional Certificate or above in the content area in which they are teaching from the PA Department of Education or must obtain Instructional Intern Certificate in the content area in which they teach within one year from date of hire. Mathematics 7-12

IMPORTANT SALARY INFORMATION: the minimum starting salary for new teachers shall be determined by their completion of years of teaching / counseling experience and degree level. In accordance with the bargaining agreement.

BONUS: A $5,000 bonus will be provided
