About the Role

Library Services Specialist

Fully Remote • AOEU HQ - Osage, IA 50461

Description

Library Services Specialist

Do you excel at helping learners gain confidence and forward momentum? At The Art of Education University (AOEU), graduate action research should be bothrigorous and empowering. We're seeking a Library Services Specialist who can help students and faculty navigate scholarly inquiry with clarity, confidence, and curiosity.

In this role, you will provide individualized action research support, develop and maintain high-impact self-service resources, and collaborate across the university to integrate research and information literacy into our curriculum. You'll help learners connect big ideas to evidence-informed inquiry and build processes that make research feel accessible rather than intimidating.

Structured as a remote part-time hourly position. This position will report to the Dean of Graduate Studies.

Essential Functions

Service and Support (60%)

  • Conduct 1:1 research consultations with graduate students to support action research, scholarly inquiry, database navigation, citation practices, and academic writing conventions (APA).
  • Respond to student and faculty inquiries.
  • Maintain regular daytime, evening, and occasional weekend availability to support graduate students across multiple time zones. [~ 8-10 hours/week]
  • Maintain consistent weekly availability for department meetings and collaboration, with designated time blocks, at a minimum of two (2) days per week. [~3-5 hours/week]

Operations (25%)

  • Maintain and update student-facing action research and library support materials
  • Audit research database usage and accessibility.
  • Collect and evaluate service data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement of library services and support.
  • Ensure alignment with institutional standards and accreditation expectations.

Cross-Departmental (15%)

  • Support research and information literacy instruction across courses and programs.
  • Participate in university governance.
  • Other projects as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Expertise in academic databases and digital library systems.
  • Strong understanding of information literacy principles and graduate-level action research practices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to apply adult learning theory in individualized academic support settings.
  • Knowledge of APA style and academic citation standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in both self-directed and collaborative environments.
  • High proficiency with instructional technologies and digital learning platforms (Google Suite preferred)
Position Requirements

While we have identified specific requirements for this role, we acknowledge that not all candidates may meet every requirement. We encourage applicants who believe they possess the necessary skills and experience to apply for consideration, regardless of whether they meet each requirement to the fullest extent.

Experience

  • 2 or more years of experience in library service support (higher education preferred)

Education & Certifications

  • A master's degree in education, library science, or art education is required; a terminal degree is preferred but not required.

Remote Considerations

  • Ability to view computer screens for significant periods of time. The Art of Education University is an online university; therefore, 95-98% of one's time will be spent on or using technology
  • Ability to use a laptop keyboard with accuracy
  • Ability to hear at normal levels and through electronic devices such as laptops, earbuds, phones, and the like
  • Ability to maintain reliable, high-speed internet (Wi-Fi) access sufficient for consistent use of online learning platforms, communication tools, and virtual meetings

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

The Interview Process

For most roles, the process is as follows:

  • Step 1: ~15-minute phone interview with hiring manager or Team and Culture
  • Step 2: Round 2 packet & corresponding panel interview
    • This step is intended to see how you might work through some of the daily tasks, responsibilities, and challenges that could arise in this role. You will be given a prompt and be asked to complete an assignment, which will then be used to guide a ~1-hour follow-up Zoom interview with stakeholders. The intention is for you to get a sense of the role and for us to see your skills in action. Your answers will not be used for any other purposes beyond evaluating your candidacy.
Benefits and Compensation

Benefits

  • All federal holidays off + an end-of-year holiday shutdown
  • Accrued paid time off (PTO)
  • Fully remote, flexible schedule
  • Lifelong Learning Fund for professional development and educational reimbursement
  • Free product access (1 FLEX/PRO license to use or gift, plus free AOEU grad courses)

Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with experience and the market. We encourage you to discuss your compensation requirements early in the process.

We look forward to reviewing your application! Thank you for your interest in opportunities with AOEU.
