Senior Vice President, Legal & Chief Compliance Officer

This is a rare opportunity to step into an enterprise-level legal and compliance leadership role where your work directly influences organizational strategy, governance, and risk posture—not just policy. As the organization continues to scale nationally in a highly regulated healthcare environment, this executive will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and the board, helping the organization move forward with confidence.

The Role

A national, multi-state healthcare services organization is seeking a Senior Vice President of Legal & Chief Compliance Officer to provide enterprise legal leadership and oversee the continued development of a scalable, defensible compliance program.

This is a remote, executive-level role, supporting a geographically distributed healthcare platform, with periodic travel for leadership and board engagement.

The position functions at a Deputy General Counsel level, combining hands-on legal leadership with ownership of compliance strategy, risk management, and governance infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior day-to-day legal leader, advising on governance, regulatory risk, contracting, and strategic initiatives
  • Design, implement, and mature an enterprise compliance program aligned with federal and state healthcare regulations, payer requirements, and government program participation
  • Translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical, operational guidance for executive and operational leaders
  • Establish audit readiness, investigation protocols, escalation pathways, and defensible resolution processes
  • Partner with executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and ownership to communicate enterprise risk and compliance posture
  • Lead, develop, and scale the legal and compliance function; oversee outside counsel and external advisors
  • Deliver concise, executive-level reporting on legal, compliance, and enterprise risk matters

Candidate Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive legal leadership experience in highly regulated healthcare environments
  • Demonstrated experience advising senior executives and boards on complex legal, regulatory, and risk matters
  • Strong working knowledge of healthcare regulatory frameworks, compliance program design, and payer/government program dynamics
  • Experience operating across multi-state or multi-division healthcare organizations
  • Business-minded, pragmatic leader with sound judgment and executive presence
  • Experience in behavioral health or similarly regulated healthcare services preferred, but not required
