The Center for Academic Innovation and Faculty Support seeks applications from highly motivated, detail-oriented students to work 5-15 hours per week to serve as a CAIFS Student Accessibility Assistant.We expect this work to be completed either in-person in the CAIFS office space in Media or virtually, from a private, secure location of the employee's choice.
Key duties include: ensuring documents (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF, etc.) meet accessibility standards, editing video captions for accuracy including grammar, punctuation, and spelling, flagging specialized content that needs to be evaluated on an expert level and reporting to the supervisor, and participating in training for accessibility standards and to use word processing and accessibility features in Office 365, Adobe PDF, YuJa, and Blackboard.
Qualifications: The successful candidate must be a currently enrolled student at USC Upstate.
Federal Work Study students are preferred and have a: excellent listening, written communication, grammar, and proofreading skills; willingness and ability to work in web-based applications; willingness and ability to work independently with direction; willingness to ask for guidance when needed; detail oriented; commitment to checking Upstate email daily; strong work ethic to support virtual work where the employee sets their own schedule (mitigated somewhat if the employee requests workspace in the Center for Academic Innovation and Faculty Support); and personal integrity is essential.
The position requires the student employee to maintain confidentiality in a professional environment.
