This opportunity would include the following requirements and qualifications:
NJ Teaching Certificate for Health and Physical Education (Limited CE, CE, CEAS, Provisional or Standard )
Previous teaching experience preferred
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities
Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Criminal history background check
Proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status
Responsibilities
Promote students' safety, wellness, health maintenance and physical fitness; provide students with an understanding of the relationship of a healthy body to healthy behaviors; and cultivate knowledge and skills that are conducive to good physical and mental health
Work to achieve common core curriculum content standards and district educational goals and objectives by developing skills in comprehensive health and physical education using curriculum and instructional materials adopted by the board of education
Work cooperatively with other health and physical education teachers and regular classroom teachers in planning an effective comprehensive school health program
Provide health, safety, family life education and/or physical education, as assigned
Set specific objectives wherever possible in lesson preparation and weekly lesson plans, and carry through presentation to effectively achieve these objectives
Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students; assume responsibility for proper use and storage of physical education equipment.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive learning environment
Evaluate each student's growth in health/physical education related to knowledge and skills, maintain records of students' progress in class record books and/or board approved forms, and summarize these marks for reporting purposes
Maintain professional competence and continuous improvement through in-service education and other professional growth activities
Communicate with parents/guardians through conferences and other means to inform them about the school program and to discuss student progress
Identify student needs, and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, behavior and learning problems
Participate in curriculum development activities, faculty meetings and school level planning
Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and board policy
Perform other duties within the scope of employment and certification as may be assigned
Mandatory New Staff Orientation Last Week of August
