Instructor For Data Center Operations And Technology

Saint Martin's University College of Business, Engineering and Technology is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate instructor to prepare students for successful careers in data center operations and technology. This role combines technical expertise with teaching ability to deliver comprehensive training that meets the rapidly evolving demands of the data center industry.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and teach courses covering data center fundamentals, including server infrastructure, networking, cooling systems, power distribution, and cloud technologies
  • Develop hands-on laboratory exercises that simulate real-world data center environments and scenarios
  • Create course materials, assessments, and projects that align with industry certifications and employer expectations
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to ensure curriculum relevance

Student Development

  • Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications such as CompTIA Server+, Data Center Technician, and relevant vendor certifications
  • Mentor students in developing both technical competencies and professional skills needed for data center roles
  • Provide career guidance and connect students with internship and employment opportunities
  • Support diverse learning styles through varied instructional methods including online and hybrid formats

Professional Engagement

  • Participate in curriculum review processes and program assessment activities
  • Collaborate CS Dept faculty to enhance interdisciplinary learning opportunities
  • Engage in professional development to maintain technical and pedagogical expertise

Qualifications

Required

  • Master's degree in computer science, information technology or related technical field. Candidates with bachelor's degree with experience and industry certifications will be considered.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in data center operations, IT infrastructure, or related roles
  • Strong understanding of data center technologies including servers, storage, networking, virtualization, and facilities management
  • Experience with at least one scripting language
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

Preferred

  • Master's degree in relevant field
  • Teaching or training experience in technical subjects
  • One or more relevant industry certifications (see list below)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OCI)
  • Knowledge of data center standards and best practices (TIA-942, Uptime Institute tiers)
  • Proficiency in multiple scripting/programming languages such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, or other relevant languages
  • Experience teaching or working in cybersecurity (strong plus)

Skills and Attributes

  • Server hardware installation, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Network infrastructure and TCP/IP protocols
  • Virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM)
  • Storage systems and backup solutions
  • Data center monitoring and management tools
  • Scripting and automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash)
  • Cloud computing platforms and services
  • Physical infrastructure systems (power, cooling, cabling)
  • Security protocols, access controls, and compliance frameworks
  • Incident response and vulnerability assessment

Relevant Certifications (Preferred)

  • CompTIA Tech+, Network+, Server+, Security+ or Linux+
  • Cisco CCNA or CCNP
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator or similar
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator
  • Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) or Red Hat certifications or CompTIA Linux+
  • ITIL Foundation
