Postdoctoral Fellow - Computational Multiomics

The candidate will be jointly supervised by the two faculty members who are both physician scientists with shared research projects.Dr.Rhee is a physician-scientist in the Division of Cardiology whose research focuses on understanding the biological mechanisms linking cardiovascular diseases with cancer and cancer therapies.She uses human-induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), patient-derived samples, genomics, and computational biology to identify biomarkers and therapeutic targets aimed at improving cardiovascular outcomes for cancer patients.Dr.

Li is a physician scientist in radiation oncology whose research integrates genetic epidemiology, innovative sequencing and bioinformatics technologies including single cell and spatial transcriptomics, molecular biology approaches using cell-based and animal models, and biomarker studies from patients enrolled in clinical trials to better understand the role of metabolic dysfunction in cancer risk and treatment response.As a successful candidate, you will: Candidates are expected to demonstrate strong ability in the following areas:

• Technical skills in or very strong desire to become proficient in computational biology or bioinformatics, particularly with either metabolomics, proteomics and/or NGS including single cell and spatial profiling approaches (Strongly Preferred).
• Knowledge of wet lab aspects of metabolomics/proteomics including mass spectrometry or High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), NGS or preparation of sequencing libraries for genomics, transcriptomic and single cell sequencing (Desired).
• Scientistic independence and critical thinking.
• Communication skills both orally and in writing.
• Data and project documentation and management.
• Willingness to teach and mentor junior trainees (Required).
• Be involved in grant proposal and manuscript writing and expected to pursue an independent scientific career after the postdoc training.
• During the training, the candidate will partner with our team members and external collaborators in serving as the scientific/technical expert to help drive our multiomics, high-throughput sequencing projects and help develop any projects based on the most advanced technologies.

• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Genomics, or a related field such as Computer Science, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular and Cellular Biology, or Cell Biology, with demonstrated computational expertise. Individuals with background in physical sciences/computer science/engineering without biology backgrounds but who want to pivot to a future career in biomedical sciences are strongly encouraged to apply.
• The candidate must have at least 2 years of experience with coding in R, Matlab and/or Python, and already adapt to using the UNIX command line and executing analyses using high performance computing cluster.

• Prior experience in analyzing metabolomics and/or proteomics data.
• Prior wet lab experience with mass spectrometry, analytical chemistry, high- throughput sequencing library preparation, sequencing project planning and troubleshooting.

• As the ideal candidate will be working primarily in either metabolomics/proteomics and/or genomics/computational biology, this is a position that is specified to be in- person for the first 12 months but can be eligible to be converted to a partially or largely remote role depending on performance, experience and fit.
