Primary Purpose of Position

The primary purpose of the 9-month, non-tenure-track nursing faculty position is to provide high-quality instruction and facilitate student learning across didactic, clinical, and/or laboratory settings while supporting the achievement of program outcomes and accreditation standards. The faculty member is responsible for implementing and evaluating curriculum, assessing student performance, and contributing to continuous program improvement to ensure alignment with professional nursing standards and workforce needs. Additionally, the role promotes student success through mentorship, engagement, and the integration of evidence-based teaching practices that prepare graduates for safe, competent professional practice.

Job Description

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke invites qualified applicants to apply for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track faculty position in the McKenzie-Elliott School of Nursing. Educational preparation and clinical expertise in family nursing, psychiatric/mental health nursing, community/public health nursing, medical-surgical nursing, and/or related areas are preferred. The faculty member may teach in the undergraduate programs during the academic year, with possible summer teaching opportunities based on program need.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality classroom, clinical, laboratory, simulation, and/or online instruction; evaluate student performance; support student progression; participate in curriculum implementation and course evaluation; and contribute to school, college, and university service.

This position is primarily focused on teaching excellence, clinical education, student engagement, and service, with scholarship and professional development encouraged in alignment with non-tenure-track faculty expectations. Candidates must hold a minimum of a master's degree in nursing, hold or be eligible for an unencumbered North Carolina RN or compact state license prior to employment, and have at least two years of clinical nursing practice experience. A concentration in nursing education, doctoral preparation, or progress toward a doctorate is preferred; teaching experience, clinical instruction experience, and competency in online or web-enhanced instruction are preferred.

  • Experience with accreditation processes and reporting, including familiarity with Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) standards and North Carolina Board of Nursing requirements
  • Experience in curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous quality improvement aligned with accreditation standards
  • Experience with student admissions, progression, retention, and student success initiatives in nursing education
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain partnerships with healthcare agencies and community stakeholders
  • Experience with online or hybrid program delivery and familiarity with state authorization requirements or distance education compliance
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.

Unrestricted RN license in the state of NC or a compact state.
