Job Description: Advancement & Alumni Engagement Assistant

(Student) Advancement & Alumni Engagement Assistant

SUMMARY:

This position provides comprehensive support to the Advancement team, with a dual focus on marketing communications andevent execution. Working closely with the Communications team and the Director of Alumni & Donor Engagement, the candidate will gain real-world experience across alumni relations, development, marketing, and event planning. This role offers the opportunity to build a professional portfolio through published writing, social media management, content creation, and the coordination of major university and fundraising events.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Digital Content & Communications: Support management of social media channels and maintain the content calendar. Conduct alumni interviews, write featured articles for the DU Review, produce high-quality videos, and capture photography at various university events.
  • Alumni Relations & Outreach: Coordinate communications for the Alumni Mentor Network, manage constituent database updates, and perform proactive donor outreach through thank you notes and alumni membership card distribution.
  • Event Planning & Execution: Lead or assist with the organizing, scheduling, and staffing of alumni and donor engagement events, including large-scale fundraising initiatives and networking meetings.
  • Administrative & Operational Support: Generate reports, presentation materials, and correspondence. Maintain accurate files, donor records, and Foundation documents with strict adherence to confidentiality.
  • Special Projects & Research: Execute special research assignments and administrative projects to support the Executive Director and broader Advancement team.
  • University Standards: Promote the University's cultural values and provide GREAT customer service. Understand and abide by all internal and external regulations, including NCAA, GLIAC, and national athletic affiliations.
  • Departmental Assistance: Attend creative brainstorming sessions and perform other duties as assigned to contribute to the overall success of the Advancement Office.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Must be currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student OR 3 credit hours as a graduate student while meeting Davenport University's standards of academic progress.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel) is required. Experience with social media platforms and basic video/photo editing is highly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across diverse audiences. Must maintain a positive attitude toward change, confidentiality, and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated motivational and problem-solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University.
  • Experience in an office, marketing, or event-planning setting is preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Business office and live event environments.
  • Prolonged sitting and standing, with frequent use of a personal computer and telephone (susceptible to eye and hand strain).
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 35 pounds for event setup.
  • Some travel between campus locations may be required (must possess own transportation).
