Purpose:

The Air Quality Specialist is responsible for managing air quality monitoring programs, analyzing data, and ensuring compliance with air quality regulations. This role involves conducting fieldwork, preparing reports, and providing expertise to support air quality initiatives and projects.

Principle Activities and Essential Function:
  • Operate and maintain air quality monitoring equipment and instruments.
  • Conduct field measurements of air pollutants, including particulate matter, gases, and volatile organic compounds.
  • Collect, manage, and analyze air quality data from monitoring stations.
  • Interpret data to identify trends, sources of pollution, and potential health impacts.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations on air quality data and findings.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local air quality regulations.
  • Prepare and submit required air quality reports and documentation to regulatory agencies.
  • Stay updated on changes in air quality regulations and standards.
  • Evaluate and manage emissions from industrial processes, vehicles, and other sources.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce emissions and improve air quality.
  • Conduct emissions inventories and prepare emissions reduction plans.
  • Provide air quality expertise and support for various projects, including environmental impact assessments and permitting processes.
  • NESHAP and NSPS compliance evaluations and planning.
  • GHG compliance evaluations and reporting.
  • Air permitting (minor source, synthetic minor, general, and Title V).
  • Visible emissions observations.
  • Manage air quality projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordinating with stakeholders.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs on air quality and pollution prevention.
  • Respond to public inquiries and concerns about air quality issues.
  • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines to ensure a safe working environment during fieldwork.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in air quality monitoring, analysis, or management.
  • In-depth knowledge of air quality regulations and standards (e.g., Clean Air Act, NAAQS).
  • Proficiency in using air quality monitoring equipment and data analysis tools.
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and air quality software.
Work Environment:
  • Combination of office and fieldwork settings.
  • Fieldwork may involve exposure to various weather conditions and terrains.
  • Standard working hours with occasional overtime or irregular hours during fieldwork or emergencies.
