About the Role

Construction Engineering Inspector

Atlas is seeking a Construction Engineering Inspector to join our team in Augusta, GA. This is a dual role serving as a combination construction office engineer and a construction inspector. The successful candidate will perform both the administrative/technical management of a project (processing RFIs, submittals, and schedules) and the hands-on, on-site field oversight to verify quality, structural soundness, and compliance with project plans and specifications on local government roadway/bridge construction and rehabilitation projects. This work directly contributes to safe, well-managed infrastructure projects that improve daily life in the community.

Office Engineering Responsibilities:
  • Review and process construction documentation including progress reports, change orders, and final project reports
  • Support compliance tracking for local, state, and federal requirements, including small business participation
  • Review project plans to identify constructability considerations and potential issues early
  • Coordinate and review subcontractor agreements in alignment with project requirements
  • Participate in project meetings to stay aligned on schedule, scope, and deliverables
  • Support project close-out by organizing and finalizing required documentation
Construction Inspection Responsibilities:
  • Perform field inspections on roadway and structural projects to ensure work meets plans, specifications, and quality standards
  • Inspect and test materials (such as soil, asphalt, concrete, and aggregates) to confirm proper quality and application
  • Observe and verify paving operations, including placement, alignment, depth, and compaction
  • Monitor construction activities including excavation, structural components, and installation of key infrastructure elements
  • Oversee traffic control and erosion control measures to ensure proper setup and maintenance
  • Complete field measurements and calculations to support accurate reporting and pay item verification
  • Maintain detailed, accurate daily records and project documentation

You'll thrive here if you have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Management; or
  • Associate's Degree (engineering, construction, or a related field preferred); or
  • High School Diploma or GED, plus three (3) years of experience in road & bridge construction and/or maintenance engineering and inspection
  • Experience in road and bridge construction, maintenance, or inspection (or a strong interest in building this expertise)
  • A proactive mindset—you take initiative and take pride in delivering high-quality work
  • Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities
  • Attention to detail and confidence working with basic math, measurements, and data tracking
  • The ability to anticipate project needs and support clients and teams effectively
  • Clear, professional communication skills when working with team members, clients, and partners
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and PDF tools

What you can expect from us:

  • Health & Wellness: We offer medical, dental and vision coverage with multiple plan options, including no-cost employee-only medical coverage.
  • Time Off & Family Support: We offer vacation time, paid holidays, sick & safety leave (SSL) and paid parental leave
  • Retirement: We help employees plan for the future with a 401(k) and company match.
  • Insurance: To provide protection and peace of mind, we offer Life, AD&D (Accidental Death & Dismemberment) and Disability insurance.
  • Safety Program: We are committed to safety as part of our 'quality of life' core value, and we provide approved PPE at no cost and reimbursement for prescription safety glasses and protective footwear.
  • Learning & Development: We provide clear career paths, learning resources and development programs allowing you to see how you can grow and advance within the company. We offer internal certifications on specific skills and support external credentials through tuition reimbursement.
