About the Role

Vice President of Strategy

Earned San Francisco, CA

We are looking for a Vice President - Strategy to join our Leadership Team and work directly with the CEO on the company's highest-priority strategic decisions, board preparation, and major initiatives. For candidates from top-tier consulting, private equity, or corporate strategy, this is a rare opportunity to move from advising companies to helping build and scale one from the inside.

In year one, the heaviest focus is enterprise planning, Board materials, and one or two flagship cross-functional initiatives. Ongoing CEO decision support, market expansion, and revenue innovation step up as that foundation is established.

What You'll Do

The role has three primary modes of engagement.

  • It owns the annual strategic planning process, board materials, and enterprise focus.
  • It leads selected cross-functional strategic initiatives and market expansion analyses.
  • It supports CEO decision-making on major strategic choices.

1. Enterprise Planning and Board Governance

This work is the center of gravity for the role.

  • Lead the company's annual strategic and operating planning process — setting the agenda, driving cross-functional alignment, and ensuring the plan is built on rigorous analysis
  • Build and maintain the analytical infrastructure that makes Earned's key operational and growth levers visible and actionable
  • Identify the specific drivers that move revenue, margin, and client outcomes most significantly
  • Quantify the tradeoffs between competing priorities
  • Give leadership a continuously updated view of what each lever costs and what it yields
  • Ensure every major operational or commercial decision has clear analytical grounding — this person should be a material influencer on which growth and operational levers get pulled
  • Own the creation and quality of Board materials — translating Earned's strategy into analytic frameworks and narratives that advance specific decisions, not just report status

2. Strategic Initiatives, Market Expansion & Revenue Innovation

  • Drive the company's most consequential cross-functional strategy work — leading high-priority strategic projects that span business lines, service offerings, or growth initiatives; taking full ownership from problem definition and analytical framing through stakeholder alignment and decision; and ensuring each initiative moves from ambiguity to a concrete plan with defined owners
  • Build Earned's market expansion framework — identifying new geographies, client segments, and channel opportunities with the greatest strategic fit and near-term commercial potential, and sequencing them against current capacity and growth objectives
  • Act as the company's center for commercial and revenue model innovation — interrogating how Earned generates and optimizes revenue, and identifying non-obvious monetization opportunities

3. CEO Decision Support & Leadership Cadence

  • Serve as the analytical and strategic right hand to the CEO on major decisions — preparing the analysis, frameworks, and options that inform the most consequential choices, and ensuring the CEO is never walking into a high-stakes conversation underprepared
  • Structure priority ELT discussions and decision follow-through on major strategic topics

What Success Looks Like

First 90 Days

  • Build a deep understanding of Earned's business, strategy, and growth priorities
  • Take ownership of Board materials preparation

3–6 Months

  • Lead at least one high-impact strategic initiative end-to-end
  • Improve the company's strategic planning process — producing a clearer, more analytically grounded annual plan and operating review cadence

6–12 Months

  • The strategic planning process is producing clearer enterprise priorities with defined owners — leadership is making decisions faster and with greater confidence
  • Board materials have shifted from descriptive to decision-oriented — each package advances specific choices, not just a status update; at least one major strategic initiative has moved from ambiguity to implementation
  • Concrete revenue producing ideas have been brought to the table, vetted and prioritized

What We're Looking For

Core Qualifications

  • 6–10 years of experience in top-tier consulting, private equity, or corporate strategy
  • Exceptional analytical ability and structured problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills — able to synthesize complex information into clear strategic insights
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; strong financial modeling skills — able to build the analytical models that quantify Earned's key operational and growth levers and size the tradeoffs between competing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous primary and secondary research — competitive analysis, operating model benchmarking, and synthesizing evidence into clear, actionable conclusions
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting executive leadership teams or C-suite executives
  • Exposure to Board communications, investor relations, or M&A
  • Experience in a PE-backed and/or rapidly scaling organization in financial services, professional services, or a related sector with an acquisitive growth strategy and multiple service or product offerings

Why Join Earned

Most strategy roles at high-growth companies are narrower than their titles suggest — heavy on decks, light on real decisions. This one is different. The strategy function here isn't advisory — it's analytical, consequential, and expected to expand the company's thinking on how to grow and optimize revenue.

You will provide the analytical and strategic backbone that informs the Board and the CEO — building the frameworks and models behind Earned's most consequential decisions. You will lead challenging strategy projects, drive commercial and revenue innovation analyses, and help ensure that every major strategic choice is made with rigor rather than instinct. The best person in this role will be one of the sharpest strategic thinkers in the company.

This role is also designed as a leadership accelerator. Strong performers have a clear path to broader ownership across strategy, corporate development, business unit leadership, or general management. The mission matters — Earned exists to solve consequential financial problems for healthcare professionals: people who dedicate a decade to training and often arrive at practice with no financial plan and no trusted advisor. When you build something here, it genuinely matters.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary, annual performance bonus and equity
  • Employer-sponsored health insurance (medical, dental, vision)
  • 401(k) with 5% employer match
