About the Role

Ann Kolker Fellow - Health Equity and Contraceptive Access

The National Women's Law Center seeks a fellow or legal fellow focused on health equity and contraceptive access. This role will support the Center's legal, litigation, and policy work on health equity and contraceptive access, with a focus on BIPOC, women with few financial resources, and women who face intersectional and other barriers to care. This role will be on the Center's Reproductive Rights and Health team and is a full-time, one-year term-limited position, to begin in fall 2026.

This is a full-time exempt position of 37.5 hours per week.

The National Women's Law Center fights for gender justice — in the courts, in public policy, and in our society — working across the issues that are central to the lives of women and girls.

We use the law in all its forms to change culture and drive solutions to the gender inequity that shapes our society and to break down the barriers that harm all of us — especially those who face multiple forms of discrimination, including women of color, LGBTQ people, and low-income women and families.

For more than 50 years, we have been on the leading edge of every major legal and policy victory for women, and we need you with us to continue this fight.

Responsibilities
  • Draft written materials, including responses to proposed rules and other agency initiatives on women's health issues, factsheets, talking points, blogs and other materials;
  • Legal and policy research;
  • Conduct legal and policy analysis of federal and state legislative and administrative proposals;
  • Work with advocates and policymakers on policy development, including identifying ways to make advancements in the areas of health equity and contraceptive access in a creative and imaginative way;
  • Participate in coalition meetings and work closely with partners in various progressive coalitions;
  • Support litigation work on health equity and contraceptive access issues;
  • Represent the Center at coalition meetings, conferences, and at public events;
  • Work in close coordination with key Center staff, including those on the Reproductive Rights and Health team, other Center staff undertaking federal and state advocacy work, and the Campaign and Communications Team, to strategically and collectively further the Center's work.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A law degree (JD)
  • To be considered as a legal fellow, admission to a state bar with ability to waive into the DC Bar if not already admitted;
  • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, stakeholders and individuals navigating our health care systems;
  • Ability to collaborate with and build trust with key stakeholders;
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills, with careful attention to detail;
  • A demonstrated ability to perform well independently with grace under pressure in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment;
  • Commitment to centering diversity and equity in executing key responsibilities;
  • Collaborative and collegial approach, and an ability and desire to work in a team-based environment, and an orientation to the work that recognizes and values the contributions of all team members

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of health equity and contraceptive access issues;
  • Ability to translate scientific and observational research into concrete policy objectives;
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience working on gender and racial equity and centering communities of color in their approach to work;
  • Proven ability to work independently and a high degree of self-motivation;

The Ann Kolker Fellow will report directly to the Director of Health Equity and Contraceptive Access and will collaborate closely with Reproductive Right and Health team and other Center staff.

A salary within the range of $90,696-99,689 will be provided to the successful candidate, consistent with the National Women's Law Center's compensation framework.
