About the Role
Adult Education ESOL Teacher
The ESOL teacher provides students enrolled in the Adult Education ESOL Program with education, training, employability skills, and experiences based on the needs and interests of each student, while maintaining a high standard of academic achievement.
Duties will include:
General Responsibilities
Provide instruction and materials using Burlington English and supplementary materials to adult English learners, differentiated according to student needs.
Provide instruction in US History and government, US Citizenship, civic participation, basic math skills, and contextualized employability skills.
Integrate technology using Viewboards, Google Classroom/Google Suite.
Integrate life, employability and digital skills into a delivered curriculum.
Provide students with ongoing evaluation of skills attempted and mastered.
Help students improve digital skills in a real-life context.
Data Collection/Use and Student/Community Outreach
Submit attendance and other required paperwork in a timely manner.
Follow up on students with poor attendance.
Participate in utilizing community agencies to provide support services for students.
Submit student and teacher class reflection forms at the end of each semester.
Professional Development
Participate in ESOL teacher meetings.
Meet required standards and seek to improve teaching practices through Teacher Evaluation feedback.
Participate in professional development workshops and activities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Adult Education
Job Qualifications
Connecticut Teacher Certification with Endorsement #088
Must understand and adhere to standardized assessment protocol
Ability to work with computer-based testing
Bilingual or multilingual preferred (Creole, Spanish, French, Chinese)
Union-optional/Non-tenure track position; hourly rate commensurate with NTL contract
