Position Summary
The Barbering Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality classroom and laboratory instruction in barbering, preparing students for employment, post-secondary education, and state licensure. The instructor develops and implements curriculum aligned with Ohio Career-Technical Education standards, teaches industry-specific skills, supervises hands-on learning experiences, and maintains a safe and productive learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, develop, and deliver instruction in all areas of barbering, including:
Haircutting and styling
Shaving and facial grooming
Hair and scalp treatments
Sanitation and infection control
Customer service and professionalism
Business management and entrepreneurship
State laws and regulations governing barbering
Develop lesson plans aligned with Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Career Technical Education standards.
Provide hands-on laboratory instruction and supervise students during practical experiences.
Prepare students for the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology and Barber Board licensure examination.
Assess student performance using a variety of instructional and assessment strategies.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, competency attainment, and industry credential completion.
Establish and maintain a safe, organized, and industry-standard learning environment.
Ensure compliance with all safety, sanitation, and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate work-based learning experiences, internships, and industry partnerships when appropriate.
Participate in curriculum development, program evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with school counselors, administrators, families, and industry partners to support student success.
Attend required faculty meetings, professional development activities, and district training sessions.
Maintain and inventory barbering equipment, supplies, and instructional materials.
Promote positive student behavior and maintain effective classroom management.
Qualifications
Required
Valid Ohio teaching license appropriate for Career Technical Education or ability to obtain appropriate licensure.
Current Ohio Barber License.
Minimum of five (5) years of recent industry experience in barbering.
Knowledge of Ohio Barber Board regulations and licensure requirements.
Ability to work effectively with high school students, staff, parents, and community partners.
