Schedule: Monday – Friday; overtime and extended hours may be required based on project schedules

Project Scope: Commercial, Industrial & Utility-Scale Solar Construction

Mandatory Licenses & Certifications: Current Virginia DPOR Journeyman Electrician License, OSHA 10 Certification, NFPA 70E Certification, and Valid Driver’s License

Prevailing Wage Projects: Eligible projects may be paid at applicable Prevailing Wage (PW) rates. Prevailing wage rates vary based on the project location, state and county requirements, funding source, and applicable Davis-Bacon requirements.

The Opportunity

Commonwealth Power is seeking a skilled Virginia Licensed Journeyman Electrician to join our growing Commercial & Industrial Solar Construction team throughout the Richmond, Virginia market and surrounding region.

This is a hands-on field position for an experienced commercial electrician who can perform complex electrical installations while providing leadership and technical guidance on active solar construction projects.

You'll work on roof-mounted and ground-mounted solar systems, perform conduit and electrical equipment installations, execute wire pulls and terminations, support commissioning and troubleshooting, and help lead apprentices and junior electricians in the field.

An active Virginia DPOR Journeyman Electrician License is required for this position.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Electrical Installation & Construction
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems for commercial, industrial, roof-mounted, and ground-mounted solar installations
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications
  • Bend, thread, route, and install RMC, RAC, and EMT conduit ranging from 1" to 4"
  • Mount and wire AC panels, disconnects, switches, junction boxes, inverters, troughs, and data/communications equipment
  • Set up and execute long-distance wire pulls and complete safe, code-compliant terminations
  • Perform electrical testing, system commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational maintenance
  • Use electrical testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively
  • Project Execution & Field Leadership
  • Provide hands-on leadership and technical guidance to apprentices and junior electricians
  • Coordinate daily field activities to maintain project schedules, productivity, and workmanship standards
  • Communicate project progress, equipment needs, safety concerns, and field challenges to project leadership
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, jobsite inspections, hazard analyses, and toolbox talk documentation
  • Receive, inventory, and organize project materials and equipment to prevent workflow delays
  • Collaborate with other trades and project personnel to maintain efficient project execution
  • Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Maintain strict adherence to OSHA, NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), NEC, and company safety requirements
  • Inspect electrical installations to verify system functionality, workmanship, and code compliance
  • Maintain safe and organized work areas throughout construction
  • Identify electrical or jobsite issues and take appropriate corrective action
  • Promote strong safety practices and quality workmanship among apprentices and field personnel

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial electrical experience
  • Active Virginia DPOR Journeyman Electrician License – Required
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial and industrial electrical systems
  • Functional knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Experience bending and installing EMT, RMC, and similar conduit systems
  • Ability to read electrical blueprints, schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical specifications
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and field problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently while also providing direction to less-experienced electricians
  • OSHA 10 and NFPA 70E certifications
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project locations throughout Central Virginia and the surrounding region
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on rooftops, ladders, lifts, rough terrain, and in varying outdoor conditions
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous commercial or industrial solar/PV installation experience
  • Experience testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting solar electrical systems
  • Demonstrated experience leading electrical crews or mentoring apprentices
  • Heavy equipment or construction equipment operator certifications
  • Experience with Google Workspace and construction management software
  • Experience working on prevailing wage or federally funded construction projects

Compensation & Benefits

  • Regular Hourly Rate: $40.00 – $45.00+ per hour (Based on Experience)
