About the Role

LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a well-established professional services organization in San Diego to identify a Project Accountant to join their growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys partnering with project leaders, managing project financials, and contributing to the overall success of a diverse portfolio of projects. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable balancing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Position Overview
The Project Accountant serves as a key financial partner to project managers and operational leaders throughout the lifecycle of a project. This role is responsible for monitoring project financial performance, supporting revenue recognition activities, managing invoicing, reviewing contract terms, and helping ensure projects remain aligned with financial expectations.
The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills, enjoy working cross-functionally, and possess the ability to translate financial information into meaningful insights for project teams.
Key Responsibilities
Project Financial Management
  • Monitor project budgets, costs, revenue, and profitability metrics throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Analyze project performance and identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Support monthly revenue recognition activities in accordance with company policies.
  • Assist project managers with forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning processes.
  • Review project spending and labor allocations to ensure accuracy.
Client Billing & Revenue Administration
  • Prepare and process client invoices in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Ensure billing activity is completed accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Review project records to validate billable activity and revenue recognition.
  • Partner with project teams to resolve billing questions and discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation supporting billing and revenue activities.
Contract & Compliance Support
  • Review project agreements and contract terms to ensure proper financial administration.
  • Monitor project setup, billing terms, and contract compliance requirements.
  • Assist with change orders, contract amendments, and project modifications.
  • Support internal and external audit requests related to project financials.
Accounts Receivable & Collections
  • Monitor outstanding receivables and assist with collection efforts.
  • Collaborate with project managers and clients to resolve payment concerns.
  • Research account discrepancies and recommend solutions.
  • Help maintain healthy project cash flow through timely follow-up and communication.
Business Partnering & Reporting
  • Serve as a trusted financial resource to project managers and operational teams.
  • Prepare financial reports and project performance analyses.
  • Communicate financial results and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives designed to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 2+ years of accounting, project accounting, billing, job costing, or financial analysis experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
Technical Skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with accounting, ERP, or project-based financial systems.
  • Strong reporting and data analysis capabilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Pay Details: $75,000.00 to $90,000.00 per year
