Position Overview
Mountaintop Construction Inc. is seeking an enthusiastic and hardworking Apprentice Carpenter to join our growing field operations team in Towaco, NJ. This hands-on entry-to-mid-level role is designed for an ambitious individual eager to build a long-term trade career in residential and commercial carpentry alongside seasoned lead carpenters and master craftsmen.
Working directly under the guidance of experienced site leaders, you will assist with framing, layout, cabinet installation, finish millwork, and jobsite logistics. Key Responsibilities
- Daily Carpentry Support: Assist Lead Carpenters and field supervisors with rough and finish carpentry tasks across residential and commercial jobsites.
- Site Preparation and Layout: Help set up work areas, measure, cut materials, and assist with wall, roof, and structural framing layouts according to blueprints.
- Installation Assistance: Support the assembly and installation of cabinetry, trim, doors, windows, millwork, and custom interior finishes.
- Tool and Material Stewardship: Transport, stage, organize, and maintain tools, heavy materials, lumber, and specialized carpentry equipment safely.
- Jobsite Logistics and Safety: Enforce site cleanliness, assist with daily cleanup, set up safety barriers, and adhere strictly to company safety protocols and OSHA standards.
- Active Learning and Mentorship: Follow technical directions from senior crew leads, learn blueprint reading, and master trade methodologies to expand your carpentry skillset.
- Team Communication: Maintain open, respectful communication with lead carpenters, subcontractors, and project managers to keep daily tasks moving efficiently.
What You Need to Succeed (Qualifications)
- Required
- Industry Experience: 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience in general construction, carpentry assistance, framing, or residential remodeling preferred.
- Trade Aptitude: Basic understanding of carpentry hand and power tools, measuring instruments, and basic construction techniques.
- Physical Capability: Strong physical stamina, including the ability to lift up to 75 pounds, climb ladders, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Professional Attributes: Honest, punctual, safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and driven by a strong desire to learn the carpentry trade.
- Driver Credentials: Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to jobsite locations across Northern New Jersey.
- Preferred
- Educational Foundation: Completion of a vocational construction program, trade school training, or high school diploma.
- Language Capabilities: Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus.
- Safety Certifications: OSHA 10-hour or basic jobsite safety credentials.
