Turn Exceptional Outdoor Spaces Into a Successful Sales Career

Are you a construction-savvy salesperson who loves design, understands how projects come together, and enjoys helping homeowners invest in their properties?

Archadeck of Hampton Roads is growing, and we're looking for an experienced Outdoor Living Design & Sales Consultant to help homeowners transform their backyards into custom outdoor living environments.

This is not a typical retail sales position or a desk-based design job.

You'll meet with homeowners, understand their vision, develop creative and practical solutions, and guide them through a consultative sales process from initial meeting to project management handoff.

Our projects include beautiful decks, screened porches, patios, pergolas, outdoor kitchens, and complex multi-level outdoor living spaces. Many projects represent substantial homeowner investments requiring thoughtful design, technical judgment, and strong relationships.

You'll join a growing residential design-build business with company-generated sales opportunities, marketing support, an established brand, and the opportunity to help shape a growing regional sales team.

What You'll Do

  • Consult With Homeowners and Close Projects
  • Meet with prospective customers at their homes to understand their goals, budget, property conditions, and preferred outdoor lifestyle.
  • Build trust through thoughtful recommendations, technical knowledge, and professional follow-through.
  • Present customized proposals, clearly communicate project value, and confidently ask for the sale.
  • Manage customer relationships, appointments, proposals, and follow-up activity throughout a multi-step sales process.
  • Maintain an organized sales pipeline and pursue opportunities through closing.
  • Design Creative, Buildable Outdoor Spaces
  • Develop outdoor living concepts that balance aesthetic appeal, functionality, project budget, and construction feasibility.
  • Measure existing spaces and prepare sketches, dimensional drawings, or CAD/3D design concepts.
  • Present material and layout recommendations for decks, porches, patios, hardscapes, and related features.
  • Use AutoCAD, SketchUp, or comparable tools to communicate designs clearly.
  • Coordinate with our drafting resources to turn approved concepts into detailed construction documentation.
  • Use Your Construction Knowledge
  • Evaluate site conditions and recognize potential challenges involving grading, drainage, access, structural requirements, and multiple construction trades.
  • Identify situations where zoning, permitting, environmental restrictions, or waterfront regulations may require further review.
  • Collaborate with internal staff and technical resources to develop practical project solutions.
  • Prepare accurate project information for estimating, proposal development, and execution.
  • Support a Smooth Project Handoff
  • Work with the office and design team through design development and permitting.
  • Participate in preconstruction meetings with homeowners and the project manager.
  • Ensure the production team understands the agreed design, project scope, and customer expectations.
  • Remain available for necessary design clarifications while maintaining a primary focus on new sales opportunities.

What We're Looking For

  • Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success in consultative, high-value residential sales, construction-related sales, or comparable client-facing project work.
  • Practical understanding of residential construction, remodeling, or design-build processes across multiple trades.
  • Ability to take a customer's ideas and develop a visual, dimensioned concept that can be communicated to both homeowners and drafting professionals.
  • Experience using CAD, SketchUp, drafting software, or comparable design methods.
  • Confidence discussing substantial project budgets, preparing proposals, overcoming objections, and closing sales.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple opportunities without losing momentum.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to customer homes throughout the assigned territory.
  • A proactive, accountable, self-directed approach to sales and customer relationships.
  • Preferred Experience
  • Five or more years of relevant construction, design, or consultative sales experience; equivalent demonstrated expertise will be considered.
  • Background in outdoor living, decks, patios, landscape design-build, residential remodeling, kitchen and bath design, or custom residential construction.
  • Familiarity with residential construction estimating, material selections, and project takeoffs.
  • General awareness of permitting, setbacks, drainage, and environmental considerations, particularly on waterfront properties.
  • Existing knowledge of the Hampton Roads residential construction market.
  • A degree in design, architecture, construction management, or a related discipline is welcome but not required.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Advertised annual earning range: 70,000–130,000+, combining base pay and commission.
  • Compensation structure discussed according to experience, sales capability, and agreed production expectations.
  • Opportunities to earn more through strong sales results, subject to the finalized compensation agreement.
  • Company-supported lead generation through marketing programs and industry partnerships.
  • Access to medical insurance options.
  • Paid time off, including vacation, holidays, and sick leave.
  • Technology and presentation tools for field sales.
  • Mentorship, product training, and professional development.
  • Access to a design showroom, material resources, and drafting support.
  • Opportunity for career growth as the company's regional sales presence expands.
