The Opportunity
Knoerdel Foundation Specialists, LLC is seeking an experienced, hands-on Chief Operating Officer to take ownership of daily operations and help lead the next phase of organizational growth.
Our company is generating approximately $8 million in annual revenue, with a goal of growing beyond $12 million. Achieving that growth requires stronger operational systems, clearer accountability, effective field leadership, and improved coordination across residential and commercial concrete construction projects.
We are looking for a leader who understands how specialty contractors operate and can make sound decisions without requiring ownership to resolve every daily issue.
This is primarily an office-based leadership position, with significant field and job-site involvement during the initial transition period. As systems, leadership structures, and accountability processes become established, the position will transition toward a greater focus on office-based operational oversight.
You will work closely with ownership to build the people, processes, and operating structure needed to support a growing construction business.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Lead Daily Construction Operations
- Assume day-to-day operational leadership across residential and commercial concrete foundation projects.
- Oversee project managers, field supervisors, subcontracted crews, equipment operations, and supporting personnel.
- Establish clear expectations for productivity, accountability, workmanship, safety, and professional conduct.
- Ensure daily job-site mobilization, staffing, equipment readiness, and material requirements are properly coordinated.
- Identify operational problems early and implement practical solutions without unnecessary escalation to ownership.
- Spend additional time visiting and working with field teams during the initial transition period to understand operations and establish effective leadership systems.
- Manage Labor, Crews, and Project Resources
- Coordinate labor and equipment assignments across multiple active projects.
- Work with project managers to distribute wall crews, flatwork crews, trucks, and other resources according to project schedules.
- Anticipate staffing and equipment conflicts and make adjustments to maintain productivity.
- Establish procedures for daily equipment inspections, crew readiness, and operational reporting.
- Monitor labor efficiency, scheduling bottlenecks, and preventable downtime.
- Lead Hiring, Employee Development, and Accountability
- Partner with ownership in hiring, employee selection, performance management, and termination decisions.
- Oversee and improve employee onboarding and training processes.
- Develop structured orientation and training procedures for new hires.
- Establish clear employee performance expectations, accountability standards, and professional conduct requirements.
- Evaluate existing operational workflows, management responsibilities, and organizational structure.
- Develop and coach project managers, field supervisors, and other team leaders.
- Address performance deficiencies through consistent management practices.
- Support recruitment planning and staffing decisions as the company expands.
- Build a leadership structure that reduces dependence on ownership for routine operational decisions.
- Improve Project Performance and Customer Relationships
- Oversee project execution and hold project managers accountable for schedule, quality, cost, and customer communication.
- Help strengthen and rebuild relationships with residential builders, commercial customers, general contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Resolve operational issues, customer concerns, warranty matters, and execution problems professionally.
- Maintain consistent standards across multiple projects, crews, and geographic service areas.
- Support the company's expansion into additional commercial construction opportunities.
- Modernize Business Systems
- Partner with ownership and financial leadership to evaluate and implement integrated construction management and accounting systems.
- Help transition the organization beyond its existing QuickBooks-centered workflows to more scalable operational and financial processes.
- Evaluate construction software solutions, potentially including Procore or comparable platforms, based on business needs.
- Improve job-cost tracking, project reporting, labor utilization, scheduling, and operational visibility.
- Develop practical procedures and reporting systems that field and office personnel can consistently use.
- Lead employee training and change management during technology and workflow transitions.
- Support Strategic Growth
- Translate the company's growth objectives into realistic staffing, operational, and capacity plans.
- Build repeatable management systems capable of supporting higher project volume.
- Help ownership plan the transition from current operating methods toward a more structured organization.
- Balance immediate operational needs with long-term systems development and organizational improvement.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of five years of senior operations leadership experience in construction, concrete, civil construction, or specialty subcontracting.

- Experience participating in hiring, onboarding, employee training, performance management, and personnel decisions.
- Proven ability to make independent operational decisions and resolve difficult personnel or project-management situations.
- Experience establishing operating procedures, reporting standards, and performance expectations.
- Ability to oversee multiple projects and work effectively with field personnel, office staff, customers, and ownership.
- Experience improving operational systems, processes, or technology adoption in a construction environment.
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Willingness to spend additional time at job sites during the initial transition period, followed by primarily office-based operational leadership.
