The Vice President, AI Solutions - Human Resource Transformation Leader is an enterprise leader within Optum.ai accountable for driving AI-enabled human resource transformation at UnitedHealth Group and translating that work into commercial solutions for the healthcare market. This role owns the commercial Human Resource Transformation strategy, offering portfolio, delivery model, growth priorities and measurable outcomes across Plans/Payers, Providers and Life Sciences clients.

This leader will use UnitedHealth Group's Fortune 3 scale as the proving ground for an AI-led, human-governed People Team - resolving routine work autonomously, equipping leaders with real-time workforce insight and focusing human expertise on judgment, trust and enterprise trade-offs. The role will productize these capabilities into repeatable Optum.ai offerings for healthcare clients.

As a member of the SVP, Head of Optum.ai leadership team, this leader will share accountability for organization-wide strategy, operating performance, talent, investment prioritization, risk management, communications and culture. The role requires executive presence, commercial judgment, HR domain expertise, fluency in generative AI and agentic workflows, and the ability to orchestrate product, engineering, consulting, delivery, sales, finance, legal, security, privacy, compliance and operations teams.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

For all hires within 30 minutes of an office in Minnesota or Washington, D.C., you'll be required to work a minimum of four days per week in-office.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Commercial Human Resource Transformation Leadership and Business Ownership
    • Own the Optum.ai HR Transformation strategy, operating plan, growth priorities and executive-level outcomes across UnitedHealth Group and external healthcare clients
    • Lead the UnitedHealth Group People Team transformation at enterprise scale, using the enterprise as the proof point for an AI-led, human-governed HR operating model
    • Carry revenue, margin and value-realization targets and manage the portfolio for growth, profitability, forecast accuracy, delivery health and workforce outcomes
    • Define OKRs, dashboards and operating cadences that connect pipeline, sold work, implementation health, employee/manager experience, productivity, trust and ROI
  • AI Storefront and Offerings Portfolio Leadership
    • Own and continuously improve the HR Transformation AI Storefront, including offering descriptions, solution packages, sales collateral, pricing guardrails, delivery playbooks and implementation guardrails
    • Productize solutions across agentic HR front door, AI service delivery, talent acquisition, workforce intelligence, employee relations, compensation, benefits, payroll and HR business partner enablement
    • Prioritize offerings based on enterprise demand, healthcare market relevance, delivery readiness, margin profile, responsible AI posture, strategic fit and measurable client impact
    • Translate UnitedHealth Group transformation learnings, adoption data, client feedback and delivery lessons into product, engineering and solution roadmap priorities
  • UnitedHealth Group Transformation Delivery and Value Realization
    • Provide executive leadership for People Team reimagination, including AI-first front door, autonomous resolution, workflow orchestration, human-in-the-loop support and product/value-stream operating models
    • Establish delivery disciplines for use case intake, business case validation, agile pod execution, architecture and data readiness, change enablement, production release and support
    • Ensure AI-enabled HR workflows improve cycle time, quality, cost-to-serve, leader productivity, strategic capacity, workforce capability and responsible AI controls
    • Lead executive escalations and make timely scope, resource, sequencing, adoption and risk trade-off decisions to protect value realization and enterprise commitments
  • Commercial Strategy and Healthcare Market Expansion
    • Commercialize UnitedHealth Group-tested HR transformation capabilities across healthcare Plans/Payers, Providers and Life Sciences organizations
    • Partner with sales, consulting, finance, product, legal and commercial leaders to shape pursuits, qualify opportunities, build business cases, price deals and protect margin
    • Serve as executive sponsor and market-facing thought leader with CHRO, CPO, CIO, COO and business executives on AI-enabled workforce transformation
    • Create repeatable sales enablement, case studies, reference architectures, implementation models and value propositions that improve close rates and delivery consistency
  • HR Domain Expertise and Operating Model Reimagination
    • Reimagine HR as a digital product organization operating through integrated platforms, enterprise data, agentic workflows and human expertise for moments that matter
    • Bring deep HR expertise across service delivery, talent acquisition, employee experience, employee relations, compensation, benefits, payroll, workforce planning, talent management and HR business partnering
    • Define decision rights, governance, escalation paths, policy guardrails and human judgment points for AI-enabled HR workflows in regulated, high-trust environments
    • Help leaders become talent stewards through AI-generated insights, skills intelligence, workforce architecture, scenario modeling and guidance for human-plus-agent teams
  • Technology, Data, Operational and Responsible AI Governance
    • Orchestrate product, engineering, architecture, data, security, privacy, compliance, legal and operations teams to build secure, scalable HR AI solutions
    • Guide integration across agentic front doors, HCM systems, HR service delivery platforms, workflow automation, knowledge management, people analytics and cloud data foundations
    • Maintain governance over data use, privacy and consent, security, auditability, model and prompt controls, embedded policy, transparency, compliance and responsible AI review
    • Manage portfolio economics, investment requests, capacity, utilization, forecast health, dependencies, implementation readiness, change controls and executive reporting
  • Cross-Functional, Enterprise and Team Leadership
    • Contribute to Optum.ai leadership team responsibilities, including strategy, portfolio decisions, budget discipline, talent planning, communications, culture-building and risk management
    • Build trusted relationships with UnitedHealth Group People Team leaders, Optum and UnitedHealthcare executives, OptumInsight partners, sales leaders and client executives
    • Lead, coach and develop senior portfolio, product, consulting, delivery and matrixed teams supporting the Human Resource Transformation business

Required Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in HR transformation
  • Deep expertise in HR as a business, including operating models, employee/manager experience, HR service delivery, talent acquisition, workforce planning, talent management, compensation, benefits, payroll, employee relations and HRBP/COE models
  • Solid technical fluency in generative AI, agentic workflows, automation, analytics, HCM and HRSD platforms, people data, workflow orchestration, cloud data architecture and enterprise deployment models
  • Direct experience providing professional consulting services in the SaaS space and delivering AI solutions to clients
  • Proven success leading large-scale transformation in complex, matrixed enterprises with accountability for business cases, operating model design, adoption, value realization and change management
  • Demonstrated ability to translate internal enterprise transformation into commercial offerings, reusable assets, implementation playbooks, business cases and market-facing solutions
  • Proven ability to partner with sales organizations on go-to-market prioritization, deal shaping, pricing governance, commercial approvals and executive-level client engagement
  • Experience owning solution portfolios, AI Storefronts, offering catalogs, sales enablement materials, delivery playbooks, intake standards, implementation guardrails and scalable delivery models
  • Proven ability to lead complex implementations and executive escalations across product, engineering, data, delivery, sales, finance, legal, security, privacy, compliance, HR and client stakeholders
