About the Role

Technical Curriculum Developer (Advanced Manufacturing)

United States

We are seeking a technically-minded Technical Curriculum Developer to support the design, development, and maintenance of scalable training solutions for skilled trades in Advanced Manufacturing, and beyond.

This role is for a "technical translator"; someone who possesses the rare ability to deconstruct complex engineering systems and rebuild them into structured, high-quality learning modules. You should have a strong foundation in the Electrical, Instrumentation, and PLC/Controls world, while remaining equally comfortable with Industrial Mechanical systems. You are not just a writer; you are a builder who understands how machines and facilities operate and how to teach others to operate and maintain them.

What You'll Do

  1. Content Design & Development (70%)
  • Module Creation: Build interactive digital learning modules using Articulate 360 (Storyline/Rise) and Google Workspace that are fully integrated into the Canvas LMS.
  • Technical Documentation: Develop comprehensive instructor manuals, detailed lesson plans, facilitation guides, and learner workbooks that provide clear, step-by-step instructions for complex technical tasks using Google Workspace Apps.
  • Visual & Multimedia Aids: Create technical diagrams, multimedia learning aids (videos, animations), and interactive demonstrations for complex systems to help learners visualize "unseen" processes like electricity and fluid flow.
  • Hands-on Lab Design: Design practical laboratory exercises, diagnostic tests, and performance-based assessments for electrical and mechanical systems, complete with rigorous safety documentation.
  • Curriculum Architecture: Assist in translating technical competencies into modular, progressive skill-building sequences, moving from foundational theory to advanced industrial troubleshooting.
  • Curriculum Maintenance & Feedback (20%)
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively synthesize feedback from learners, instructors, and field SMEs to identify pain points and drive rapid curriculum iteration.
  • Content Lifecycle Management: Manage the update cycle for existing modules: adding, updating, or removing content based on changing industry standards and market signals.
  • Governance & Version Control: Maintain meticulous version control and technical documentation for all training materials to ensure site-to-site consistency across national programs.
  1. Program Support & Collaboration (10%)
  • Instructor Enablement: Develop robust instructor onboarding materials and resource libraries, including technical reference sheets and troubleshooting guides for trainers.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Assist with the creation of program descriptions and technical marketing materials for recruitment and external partnership engagement.

What You'll Bring To Us

Technical and Industrial Expertise

  • 1-3 years of technical instructional design experience.
  • 1-3 years of working in or with electrical or electromechanical roles in industrial environments.
  • Strong technical background; able to grasp and convey highly technical subject matter
  • Ability to respond clearly to live digital conversations via a digital engagement platform such as Zoom or an in-person training environment.
  • Strong communication skills

Required Skill Sets

Technical & Industrial Expertise

  • Electrical & Controls (Priority): A demonstrable understanding of Electrical systems, Instrumentation, and PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) logic and troubleshooting.
  • Integrated Mechanical Systems: Hands-on experience or deep technical familiarity with:
    • Climate & Thermal Management: Industrial HVAC, Chillers, and Cooling Towers.
    • Fluid & Hydronic Systems: Pumping systems (VFD-controlled), heat exchangers, hydronic piping loops, and water treatment/filtration systems.
    • Material Handling: Industrial conveyor systems, sorters, and motor-driven rollers.
    • Facility Infrastructure: Diesel generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and basic pneumatic/hydraulic controls.
  • Sector Experience: 1-3 years of experience working in or consulting for Advanced Manufacturing environments with skilled tradespersons.

Instructional Design & Professional Skills

  • Design Expertise: 1–3 years of experience in instructional design or technical training content creation.
  • Software Stack Proficiency: Associate-level use of Articulate 360 and Canvas LMS. High proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
  • Communication: Exceptional written communication skills with a proven ability to simplify expert-level technical jargon into teachable, structured content.
  • Safety Mindset: A solid understanding of industrial safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 70E).

Preferred Skill Sets

  • Professional certifications in maintenance-related disciplines (e.g., Electrical, HVAC, or Industrial Safety).
  • Experience with virtual labs, AR/VR simulations, or SCORM/xAPI content development.
  • Familiarity with competency-based education (CBE) and national credentialing frameworks.

Professional Qualifications

  • Industrial Certs:
    • SACA (Smart Automation Certification Alliance): Certified Industry 4.0 Associate (C-101 through C-104: Basic/Advanced Operations, Robotics, and IIoT).

    • Canvas Certified Educator: Specifically the Course Design pathway for the Canvas LMS.
    • Or similar.

Personal Characteristics

  • You thrive in a creative, inventive, fast-paced startup environment with people who are passionate about their work and mission.
  • You are data-driven, result-oriented, and a forward-looking catalyst for social change.
  • You have a collaborative and flexible work style. You're excited to work cross-functionally with other departments and independently.
  • You are a life-long learner.
  • You are an effective communicator with strong oral and written skills.
  • You are tech-savvy and learn new tools quickly.
  • You are detail-oriented, with exceptional organizational management skills.
  • You are adept at managing your time and balancing multiple projects and tasks.
