WelbeHealth is seeking a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the API & Integration Platforms team. This role combines technical leadership with active engineering contributions, focusing on designing, developing, and delivering scalable APIs, cloud-native integrations,and AI/ML-enabled solutions within a highly regulated healthcare environment.
The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills along with deep technical expertise in API architecture, Azure cloud services, distributed systems, and healthcare interoperability standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Development
Lead the architecture, development, and deployment of APIs, microservices, and integration platforms
Contribute hands-on to coding, troubleshooting, and system design activities
Conduct code reviews and enforce engineering best practices
Design scalable cloud-native solutions using Azure, Docker, and Kubernetes
Build secure, high-performing, and compliant systems
AI/ML & Automation
Support AI/ML-enabled services and integrations
Implement MLOps practices for deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management
Develop proof of concepts (PoCs) for emerging technologies and AI-driven solutions
Team Leadership
Mentor and guide engineering teams
Drive technical decision-making and solution delivery
Act as an escalation point for technical challenges
Foster a collaborative and high-performing engineering culture
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Product, Cloud, Architecture, and Security teams
Translate technical requirements into scalable integration strategies
Communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Security & Compliance
Ensure systems align with HIPAA, PHI/PII, and healthcare compliance standards
Support interoperability initiatives using FHIR, HL7, and EDI standards
Maintain secure authentication and authorization mechanisms using OAuth2, JWT, and Entra ID
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
8+ years of software engineering experience
3+ years in a leadership role such as Engineering Manager, Lead Engineer, or Tech Lead
Hands-on experience with Python and/or Node.js
Strong expertise with Microsoft Azure cloud ecosystem
Experience building REST/GraphQL APIs, microservices, and distributed systems
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Knowledge of OAuth2, JWT, and identity management solutions
Experience in healthcare, healthcare interoperability, or API-heavy environments
Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with AI/ML integrations or MLOps frameworks
Experience with Azure AI, MLflow, Databricks, or related AI/ML platforms
Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards such as FHIR, HL7, and EDI
Master's degree preferred
