About the Role

Senior Licensing Engineer - Remote

This is a remote position.

Overview: This is a full-time remote role for a Senior Licensing Engineer. The Senior Licensing Engineer will perform engineering regulatory analysis, conduct licensing engagements, and develop regulatory submittals forLightbridge Fuel for various types of water-cooled reactors, in support of qualifying and commercializing Lightbridge Fuel.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead topic-specific regulatory engagements and/or submittals.
  • Develop regulatory analyses and manage regulatory requirements for specific topics.
  • Review technical information provided in submittals to ensure alignment between Lightbridge's regulatory requests and the supporting technical basis.
  • Communicate licensing approach and regulatory requirements to technical and stakeholder organizations.
  • Prepare technical and licensing teams for, and lead, topic-specific regulatory audits.
  • Draft or support the drafting of, and coordinate, formal responses to regulatory requests for additional information.
  • Manage schedules and resources for assigned scopes of work.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of regulatory frameworks and guidance.

Minimum Qualifications: BS Degree in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field + 5 years relevant experience, or MS Degree in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field + 4 years relevant experience, or PhD in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field + 3 years relevant experience. For exceptional candidates, relevant work experience may substitute for years of experience.

Minimum Qualifications Continued

  • Experience interacting with at least one of the following governmental agencies in a licensing or regulatory affairs capacity: U.S. NRC, CNSC, ONR, ASNR, FANR, DOE, NNSA, NR, and state-level nuclear regulators. Experience working with two or more of these organizations is advantageous.
  • Working experience at operating reactors and/or fuel production facilities.
  • Working experience with nuclear fuel designs and associated regulatory submittals.
  • General understanding of reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, safety analysis, special materials transportation licensing, fuel cycle facility licensing, or nuclear fuel design. Experience in metallic fuels, especially U-Zr, is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with ASME Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) requirements.
  • Experience working closely with industry, national laboratories, and nuclear regulators is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to access U.S. National Labs and other relevant facilities where Lightbridge projects are conducted.
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
